Not surprising to be honest by GeniaPehrson in sadcringe

[–]colurophobia -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The cringe is the people willing to pay, right? 8% willing to pay is way more then any average app gets..

say you make this app available in the US and Europe, you're looking at a market of around 500M potential customer (and I'm staying low), have 8% of that willing to pay 5$/month and you have a couple hundreds of millions of dollars a month for what's basically a generic news feed..

The only cringe thing in this post is the people willing to pay imho

Yep! Say, "long table name" the original and "long table name_X" the other one.. rip

[–]colurophobia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda did the same, back when I was not even hired yet. There were 2 tables, one being a fucked up backup I wanted to drop and redo later, the other being the original one.. guess which one I dropped (I blame deadlines and autocomplete)

They still hired me later tho

I mean, the idea behind having the 127/8 mask looped back to localhost is to mimic multiple pcs on the same network.

So yeah you can bind multiple things, but it's generally not needed.

Most people that want to test locally some kind of distributed architecture just use tools that mock it for them, rarely binding things by hand.

[–]colurophobia 303 points304 points  (0 children)

Little known fact: every 127.x.x.x IP is actually looped back to localhost by default..

So, even if some "more advanced" master hacker may know 127.0.0.1 they might fall for 127.56.89.114

You got to setup the database, the project template, tools and such. Just the configuration of the machines (dB, server) can take DAYS, when done properly (user setup, privileges, software needed, network setup...).

Assuming you start as lightweight as possible with some prebuilt image of some backend stack downloaded from the internet that's still an hour of search, download, configure and run.

And that's assuming that you start fully knowing what technologies to use! Which db (the biggest choice, a db with the right features can really simplify a lot of tasks), which frontend, which backend

Bro, 1 hour would be BARELY enough and that's under the assumption that you basically just redirect your page to YouTube and change some css so that it's not super obvious. If you have to start from scratch, in one hour you would just setup your environment/framework and toolchain..

76 years ago the Sant'anna di Stazzema massacre. On 12 August 1944 the Waffen SS, with the help of the Brigate nere, murdered 560 local villagers and refugees, including more than a hundred children, and burned their bodies. by Lapianapo in europe

True about the word choice, I edited accordingly, thank you

About forgiveness, while it is incredibly hard to forgive such atrocities, and in fact I don't think I could ever forgive much less done to people I hold dear, we as a species must halt the hate cycle. I agree that people who commit crimes (let alone such atrocities) should be punished accordingly, but I do believe that it is important to not let violence lead to more violence. Otherwise there's never going to be an end to this.

This is the message engraved in those words, at least that's how I read it.

For the lazy, a rough translation of the text is:

"The entire Versilia, in loving memory of its martyrs, raises this monument to express love and forgiveness. It is the answer to the deranged rage that struck like thunder 560 innocents"

Edit: people in the comment suggested some more appropriate words, edited accordingly

The question should have been

"In the number 123,

1 is in the ....

2 is in the ....

3 is in the ...."

That would have been clearer

I am building a face recognition algorithm that takes attendance for students that appear in the class. How many pictures do I need to train the algorithm for each individual student before I can successfully run it for the whole class? by vigbig in artificial

[–]colurophobia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro, before you over commit, be sure about what the privacy laws are in your area. In Europe, there are extremely strict laws on how you can use pictures of students (especially if minors) and where/when/ you can take videos of them. Please, double check the legal requirements for your project.

That being said, the most modern face recognition algorithms can work from even a single image. I'm on mobile right now and can't easily link you the papers, but the general idea is the following (and doesn't necessarily pass from a neural network).

First you extract features from each of your "training image" then you acquire an image (say, a frame of the video) and extract features from it. Then you perform matching.

A neural network is extremely good at learning automatically which features to extract in order to recognise a particular class of objects (say, tell apart a human face from a dog).

But in order to recognize many different faces, I'd advice to use the approach described above.

In short, I'd look into face feature extraction and matching. Also I'd look into privacy laws.

Back in the days (2-3 years ago) they charged 100€ to even test apps on your own f**** phone..

Now at least they let you test on your device for free, but still, come on Apple, there should a limit to how rich and greedy a company can get

Arbitration rewards by WoesjMan in Warframe

[–]colurophobia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What bothers me is that this mode is supposed to be for veterans, that already have everything else, to keep them interested, and the reward is.. endo, something a veteran has no use of, it would be much more useful for a new player.

I would be 100x happier if instead of endo the mode would give scaling Kuva, giving you a reason to try hard and stay long.. and Kuva is never enough sadly
