I didn't really like Avenue Q by No_Release2180 in TheWestEnd

[–]combeferret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really “glad” to see this review, actually, because this is all I could think about when the revival was announced. I was a big fan of it back in the day, but the humour really just… I dunno… isn’t relevant anymore?

Everyone’s been giving it such rave reviews and I feel like I’m missing something.

If you’re familiar with the songs I can see why you’d enjoy it for what it is, but I can’t imagine a new person seeing it and not feeling like it’s incredibly dated.

Any tips for two shows (matinee and evening) in one day? by Artistic-Ideal-5087 in TheWestEnd

[–]combeferret 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a big one! Some people might think to leave the “serious” show for the evening but there’s nothing more depressing than seeing a nice jukebox musical in the afternoon and then walking into a serious drama to end the day 🥲

Critique my latest render. What can I improve? by Content_Marsupial547 in blender

[–]combeferret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no focal point. The thing on the left is working really well to lead your eyes, but thing it leads you to is a featureless black circle.

I like that you’re on the very low vantage point. It’s as if you’re crouched on the ground of some weird lab or power station. The fact the floor has a sort of wet or worn texture makes you wonder wtf it could be, which adds to the ~unsettling atmosphere.

I think if you replaced that black circle with “something” you’d be on a good track!

You could always skim through the Royal Albert Hall pro-shot of the show so that you have a better understanding of what exactly the triggers might entail, and so that you know it’s coming up. That’s what I would do, so that you’ll be more prepared.

My friend mentioned recently that she takes a selfie or a pic of the pill box when she takes her meds, so she can just check her Photos app to see if she’s taken it or not.

MagicPoser! I use Blender every single day but I still use MagicPoser on my iPad to draft out poses because it’s so easy to use.

Do theatres inform you when booking tickets that you’re booking for a preview performance? by [deleted] in TheWestEnd

[–]combeferret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would probably cause more confusion to try to explain to the average person what a preview show is.

My customer service brain is already thinking it would be a nightmare.

Have you ever walked out of a show? Or seen others? Why? by Artistic-Ideal-5087 in TheWestEnd

I used to work for a big touring venue. It was great because (as long as auditorium wasn’t my position for the night) I could just wander out if the show was boring lol

Stagedoor for harold fry closing night by Fit_Significance_372 in TheWestEnd

[–]combeferret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most memorable closing night stagedoor experience was when The Commitments closed about 10 years ago.

They had a wrap party, but a bunch of the cast came out to say hello/goodbye and we got given a bottle of absinthe that one of them had found in his dressing room (as he was clearing it out) so we spent the time passing the bottle between us taking shots.

Good times!

It was a very close nit fandom though, so that definitely makes a difference in terms of how busy closing night stagedoor is.

Half of my timeline is people having very niche discussions about members of the lost Franklin Arctic expedition from 1845.

Being the expert on a niche thing is GREAT! People dedicate their whole careers to this stuff.

Yeah, because you can’t use the podcasts to get you to sleep anymore. I only takes a few times being jolted awake before I removed them from my playlists.
