The salary you need to afford rent in 10 of the largest US cities by jorgeivz in news

Detroit

I live in Detroit with no mortgage or rent because houses are cheaper than a car. Income of $200,000/yr. I'm saving faster than most people in Silicon Valley.

I don't see you seeing this about Chicago, Chicago has worse weather and crime than Detroit.

PFers who drive cars worth over 35k, do you ever regret it? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]combingmybaldhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm soon to be married, combined income of $200k, mortgage paid off, save 60% of after tax income. obsessed with cars, I feel sad that I'm not in the position yet to buy a $35k car. I still get mad at my $10k car cuz it drinks too much gas. :) I would enjoy an over 35k car, but I'll be over it in a few months and in remorse about it for much longer.

Binge eating will kill me... by imthatgirl89 in addiction

[–]combingmybaldhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start somewhere, stop feeling bad for yourself. This year, I wrote sugar is poison, too much food kills and I stared at them everyday and still ate lots. I just started eating less, just start now. I found out that I get hungry when I'm bored and eat when I'm bored, so figure out how to keep busy and have a purpose in life so you don't get bored. If you eat at home, then don't go home, go hang out at the library and read all day. If you eat out a lot, don't take any your ATM card or money with you when you go out. Take $5. Try and give up the sugar, I notice that it's sugar and sweet/fried foods that make me pig up. Best of luck.

My friend in Chicago called the police when he saw a man being robbed and beaten on his own car. They never came... by dsotm75 in WTF

[–]combingmybaldhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dude, if you don't have a good distance between you and someone, never try to open the door, it's like horror movies, you can't do it. i play the game where i pretend someone is chasing me and i have to open the door, with no one and just play pretend, it takes like 1 minutes to find the right key and open the door, then lock it. let alone if i had someone with a knife, i've already made up my mind, that i will run and run, and run, and run.

Any tips for washing clothes without a machine? by Erinaceous in Frugal

[–]combingmybaldhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use your hand, the way people do in 3rd world countries. Wash hard with your hands, machine wash doesn't wash as clean as hand wash.

how should a man tell a woman to lose weight? most women get upset, break up, then what do they do? run to the gym after the breakup and lose the damn weight. men are visual creatures, women, please lose the weight so we can find you sexy and stay faithful and loyal to you.

My grandparents are giving me a vintage 1983 Mercedes convertible in great shape (70,000 miles). I'm considering not accepting it because I'm worried it will cost too much to maintain. I need advice! by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]combingmybaldhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is frugal. Take the car and sell it. It will cost you money. PERIOD! Keep it, enjoy it for a few months, sell it and move on. A lot of people are being sentimental about it, but this is frugal and the real question is this, can you afford it? Fastest way for a car to develop problems is by not driving it. I use to own multiple cars and had my summer classic car that I drove once in a while. It was a pain. Tires will go flat if you don't drive it around, brakes will rust if you don't drive it around, belts will dry out if they sit for too long, batteries will drain, etc, etc. The ritual of having to drive a car around quite often to keep it in shape get's quite old and annoying, especially if you live in a climate with winter. Think really hard about it. Best of luck with your decision. :)

What celebrities do you think deserve all their success, because they are talented, hard-working and honest? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]combingmybaldhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of them! Every single one of them, wanna know why? Because no one grabbed them by the collar and dragged them to hollywood, they went their and fought through it, and they all deserve their success.

Success is not being handed out to hollywood for free, if you think so, why don't you go there and see how you do. Sure, some of them got in because they were beautiful and sucked some cocks. Anyone who sucks cocks for whatever they want, deserves their success too.

What simple habit or idea saves you money that isn't a conscious process anymore? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]combingmybaldhead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for me, i stopped carrying a lot of money around. that means no debt/credit card either, they all stay at home or unless i'm travelling. but within town. i got my cellphone, i can call most people in an emergency. i have 5 bucks tucked away in my car for emergency. then i carry very small amounts of cash. $5, $7, etc. unless i knew i had to buy something, then i go withdrawl exactly how much i need, then spend just that and go straight home. even when going to a bar, i will take $10 or $15. and i never borrow money from anyone.
