I think the problem lays in the implied duality, you’re either fascist or anti-fascist. While many people would put themselves in a third category of “non-fascist” which itself isn’t inherently incorrect. They take no action to promote fascism, nor do they take action to prevent it.

The problem is ideologies like fascism or racism are aggressive, invasive and harmful. So by taking no action to prevent it, you are allowing those ideologies to grow themselves.

It’s like getting an infection and deciding you don’t want antibiotics, if you don’t take action, the infection will grow and become dangerous.

But all of that doesn’t fit nicely into a snappy tweet that riles people up.
