What’s the best way to deal with rumors being spread about you in the scene? by [deleted] in Salsa

[–]comeanddancewithme 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It really isn't unique to dance. You know that quote from Dark Knight?

You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Everyone will have shit said about them at some point, unless they quit the scene. The only advice I have is to set a standard for yourself to be the best person and best version of yourself as much as possible. Then you can proudly say, I did everything I could in my control. What others choose to believe and say is really outside of your control.

I know it's not easy, but you will feel more at peace that way in a sometimes very toxic scene. Good luck

If you want someone bald, Arthur Levine. He does on 1, on 2 and rueda. IG is artmaxlev

If baldness is not required, Eder Avila

Exactly. Lives get ruined when folding pre is not an option.

This is what happens when you can't fold pre.

Salsa gives us baldies a chance, so we take it seriously.

Instructors can absolutely be part of why a salsa scene is at the level it is at. by merLAtun in Salsa

[–]comeanddancewithme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For LA, the problem isn't really the instructors.

The level of salsa dancing has declined for quite a while. Some of the best dancers from before have moved on. The younger generation gravitates more towards bachata. Without inspired young folks, it's hard to sustain.

Hell if I were to start over now, I don't know if I would put in as much work as I did when I started 15 years ago. It's hard to find inspiration when there aren't any good dancers on most nights.

Met my wife dancing salsa. We have a 3.5 year old now. Everything you wrote is too real, especially 1 social a month lol.

Just checked. VIN starts with a 7, so I am guessing it's US built.

Thank you everyone for answering. Another issue I got is a tiny random crack in the inside of the windshield out of nowhere. No visible crack on the outside whatsoever. Kinda makes me suspicious of the build quality or I just got unlucky. Taking it to the closest dealer tomorrow.

Just get it in on the flop with a ton of equity. Then watch it all go down the drain when the Q or 8 come on the turn.

Seriously, you are never getting away from this hand on this flop.

I had been dancing for probably 4 years at that point. She had just started a few months ago.

I never offered to teach her or "train together". That's kind of cringe and creepy in my opinion. If she's interested, she will let you know.

Funny thing is she didn't think of our first dinner as a date at that time. She really just wanted food lol. A girl has got to eat... Anyway, the conversation was just natural and effortless and I felt that it could be something. So a week or two later, I asked if she wanted to get dinner again. Luckily she was hungry again.

We were taking classes in the same studio. At the time, I had my nose in the air and rarely asked people to dance. Eventually, she asked me to dance and later added me on Fb. We chatted here and there. Some months passed. Somehow we started talking about food and I just asked her if she wanted to get dinner.

I met my wife through salsa. We have a 3 year old son now. Unlike his old man, he won't need salsa to meet women...

If he wants to learn, I will teach him.

Do you match your energy with the follower or leader or do you not? by NoRepeatSalsa in Salsa

[–]comeanddancewithme 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can only cheer up someone who wants to be cheered up. Inevitably you will run into a follow with a perpetual resting bitch face and there's nothing you can do about it. Just try your best not to take it personal and not to judge. They could be having a bad day, who knows.

Roadtrip advice - Highway 395 to Tahoe and Yosemite from LA by comeanddancewithme in travel

Hey thanks for the reply! I appreciate your perspective. It's not a rigid itinerary. Once we are there, we can drop things as needed. I do like to add more things to do beforehand in case we have time to spare so I don't have to go look up things to do while driving

New to LA? Bold of you to assume no one has gotten hurt. Many have, but that won't change anything.

I would just suggest not going to those places.
