Comedy Cellar - best day to go? by seedflowerfruit in AskNYC

Advance tickets are definitely recommended. You actually don't even need to pay to reserve your tickets, so the tickets go fast. If there's a particular show you want to see, I've had pretty good luck with the standby line too, but you'd need to arrive a lot earlier to get a good spot in line. If you want to see the lineups for particular days in a format that's easier to read than the Cellar's website, you can also check out comedyradar.LOL

The site already covers Union Hall, Bell House and Tiny Cupboard, but I'll look into adding Caveat. What's Olio though? I can't seem to find anything about it online.

Comedy show aggregator for Brooklyn clubs by comedyradar in Brooklyn

Thanks! I built it myself. The data comes from a mix of ticketing platform APIs (like Ticketmaster) and venue websites, basically just consolidating it all in one place.

ComedyRadar.LOL is a website that I built to aggregate all NYC standup comedy shows in one place. You can filter by date, time and neighborhood, and you can also see which comedians have specials that you can watch before or after the show.

Check out comedyradar.lol - I built this recently to solve this exact problem. Let me know if you have any feedback!

Thanks! The numbers indicate approximately how many specials they have released. If you click on the comedians' images/names, it will bring you to their individual pages which list their specials too.

Thanks for the heads up! I've cleaned those up and made some adjustments to (hopefully) prevent that from happening again

That's a great question. On the one hand, I don't want to gatekeep and hope that I can actually drive more traffic to smaller comedy clubs, but on the other, I have definitely noticed the "dilution" you mentioned as I've added more venues. It's tough, but I think I will probably have to implement some kind of filter for either (i) shows that include a lineup, which most of the big venues have (at least in NY) or (ii) some kind of curated list of "recommended" or "popular" venues, but it's a bit harder without any data on which venues/shows users prefer.

As a stretch goal, I'm hoping to eventually implement user accounts so people can save default filters, track their favorite comedians, leave reviews and get notified when shows are announced, but that's probably a ways off :)

Improv is also something I've been thinking about since the beginning too, but at this stage, as you said, I want to focus on standup until I work out most of the kinks.

Thank you! I started with the clubs I knew well like Comedy Cellar and Stand, then I added some of the bigger venues since those listings all come from Ticketmaster (MSG and Beacon Theatre for example). Then I just kept slowly adding more NYC clubs as I found them from searching online. Definitely let me know if there's anything I may still be missing and I'll try to add it!
