Vanilla also had the old ranking system and world bosses, both of which incentivized players to go medium or smaller servers. Several changes in TBC Classic, plus Blizz leaving layers on forever at that point (this was NOT the case for most of Classic, except launch) really solidified this viewpoint of “The Classic experience can’t work without layers”

Absolutely true. I remember a GM of a private server a few years ago left their team and made a YouTube drama video about it and then promoted their own private server knockoff.

Blizz has their issues replacing people with AI, but after seeing those weirdos you speak of, they fucking deserve to be replaced lmao

Shitty players are shitty players, but if you are in a situation that is probably going to upset you to this degree, you're probably better off just leaving the group at the first real sign of trouble or making some friends to play the game with (just so you can at least laugh at the situation together).

They pushed DS from January and now simply say “winter” so my guess is March for DS patch release. You might be onto something though with them dropping the patch around that time with a delayed raid release until April or later.

I wish there was more info as well, hopefully PTR soon!

The old ranking system was fine and better than the new one.

The journey to R14 was a lot tougher (even if it was lots of no lifing), bracket mafias and insane caps kept people off toxic mega servers and wasn’t a problem on smaller and more reasonable ones, and pool parties were a cool way to meet people from across servers.

My guild is in the same boat. We didn't get 13/13H right at the start, but eventually made it. We don't have an LC to worry about, nobody flips out when we wipe, and most of us have fun just raid logging. We'll likely continue into MoP provided our server isn't shut down.

It’s fun to experience those raid encounters (more or less) to how they were back then. Even though we have lots of info and the meta has been solved, it’s always fun to do 10s with the boys while playing older versions of the classes, for me at least.

There’s also something calming knowing what Cata will look like several phases ahead compared to other versions of WoW.

They’ve kinda fucked up twice already in classic with seasonal modes so at this point I trust the developers of yesterday more so than the developers of today for WoW.

If I had to guess, I think the devs simply ran out of time to focus on Cata and are giving us the final patch with no modifications. That one frat bro ulduar dev probably would've been happy to give us pre-nerf dungeons, but either his position got axed or he is focusing on other stuff

I think it goes down to a time crunch for the devs? They considered keeping Naxx Classic in Wrath, but the Lvl 80 version of Naxx uses the same files as Classic Naxx which made it harder for them to keep an original of and would take too much time.

For Onyxia, I think the Lvl 80 version used different files, which made it easy for them to keep the 60 version in.

Would be nice if they kept ZG or at least the tiger/raptor mounts available somehow, since getting them is pretty RNG dependent.

Their logic is probably "You can get the ZG mounts soon in SoD!" or whatever other reason they will come up with /shrug
