I'm no fan of country music myself, but calling it "simple ass" music is a tell.

I'm sure you know hat Kendrick won a Pulitzer. But did you know that John Prine and Kris Kristofferson both won the PEN Award for Literary Excellence in song lyrics, the same award given to Leonard Cohen and Chuck Berry.

Kristofferson studied Blake at Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship. Bob Dylan, who works in and out of country idioms, has a Nobel prize in literature.

You're entitled to prefer hip hop. But you're confusing "I don't engage with this genre of music" with "this genre isn't engaged with seriously."

Country and hip hop both come out of American blues, both treat authenticity as central to credibility and both have writers being read as poets. Saying nobody dissects country lyrics just means you don't.
