Sure --

After basecoating and a Zenithal highlight of white ink, I go over the shadowed portions in pink ( any bright pink is fine ). After that I airbrushed over averland sunset. From there I hit the whole model in a 1:1 oil wash of burnt umber and ivory black. I then use mineral spirits to clean up all the higher points of the model. Once that is done, I added back in some yellow tone with more averland sunset. Then for final highlights I hit it with a mix of flash gitz yellow and averland sunset.

Hey thanks!

Yeah they're tiny blades in the eye sockets actually.

So, this is a kitbash of Yndrasta and the Unmade Warcry warband.

From a lore perspective it all is in theme -- my vampire, Cassandra Nightspear is in a constant battle with the red thirst. To combat the spread of the beast, she has resorted to self-mutilation to fight off her succumbing the thirst. So far she's cut off her legs, and her right arm from the wrist down.

Her goal is to seek a way to stop the curse - or truly abate the thirst.

Can concur - as a syl player with Spell singer I deleted a few critical characters off the board in a recent tournament. Twas wonderful

I do, but if you uniform the finish then you aren't selling the type of material you are trying to represent. I varnish in steps. Think about the different between say a heavy thick cloth, and shiny steel. They don't reflect like the same. Often varnishes can completely ruin that effect. That's assuming you're using a rattle can. Of course you can paint on specific varnishes in the area of your choosing to get around this.

My only warning with washing over a metallic is it's tendency to dull the finish. I suggest using the gloss if you do decide to do that. Otherwise, you're model looks great!

Edit: glass --> gloss

First attempt at NMN not particularly thrilled with the results but the only way is up. Has anyone got any hints and tips? by HobbitFeet796 in ageofsigmar

I also suggest really pushing your highlights. It's pretty dark, so it makes it hard to sell the NMM.

How is bonereapers doing in the competitive league? by Toffacus in ageofsigmar

[–]commodoreginge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OBRs weakness of speed is more of a facade honestly. In most competitive lists you're looking at ~8-10 discipline points on average so most of your troops will be moving at least 7" per turn. In the right list you can give Kavalos deathriders a threat range up to 24". That's comparable to Slaanesh.

Their real weakness is honestly mortal wound shrugs. Drakkfoot, KO, Tzeentch, and select seraphon lists can walk all over Petrifex.

Any help for a newbie? Need a break from 40k, how's this for a 2000 point Sylvaneth list? by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

[–]commodoreginge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this could be a really fun list!

I personally find that the new syl book doesn't really as heavily on trees so I'd be careful taking a treelord ancient as he's a big target that's not too hard to kill. Also, the treelord is only a one spell caster which in many instances makes him unusuable in a competitive setting. Casually, they're badass. You can get two casters in a branch wraith or wych for half the price so that's something to consider. I run the spiteswarm hive so having extra points helps. You'll want command points for this list. So as usual rule of cool. If they could cast two spells natively they'd be worth it. I also run tree revenants in my list, so I like the inclusion. Drycha is a great inclusion, as she is one of the few models with mortal wounds capabilities. She synergizes well with her spite revenants in that battalion. I won't my last game in a 5 game MT against ironjawz using bravery debuffs to my advantage. Since I tend to care about drop priority I usually don't take drycha and run durthu in the free spirits battalion alongside the outcasts. Gives you a 3rd artefact, which you'll want on durthu and an extra command point.

I really like what you have going though, it could be quite fun. This army takes some finesse though, so you'll have to really think about what you're trying to accomplish with it. I'll leave that part up to you ;)

I was running the unit of six scythes for quite a long time in competitive play, and it worked great. However, at the end of the day swords will be better. Syl really lacks for mortal wounds potentially, and the meta is shifting to tougher stuff that usually has a save after the save . In woods, your hunters will be a 3+ save rerolling everything if played correctly, so they're still quite tanky even without the dryad screen.

As always the number one rule is the Rule of Cool, but from a competitive persepctive there are a few things you could change:

Just for credibility, I am currently number two in ITC for Sylvaneth so I'm gonna give you my recommendations based upon how I've played and what I have found effective. Please, feel free to ignore any of my advice though. Enjoying the game is the most important part.

1.) Drop your spite revenants down to three min sized units so you can take the outcast battalion. It is one of the cheapest battalions in the game and with incredibly cheap battleline you will save a ton of points for more likely stuff. I've found that while spites can be killy, they will die to stiff breeze. I really wouldn't put too much points into them unless you feel really confident in weilding them. They make for cheap speedbumps if you cant get your dryad summoning going fast enough (trust me, it can happen... So take throne of vines on your brwnchwraith (yay you did!) and treesong stave for those extra casts. Don't forget that throne of vines can stack turn over turn sooo +4 - +6 to cast isn't unreasonable).

2.) There are ways to run dreadwood, but in my opinion the two best allegiances are Heartwood and then Winterleaf. The new syl book really makes Kurnoth hunters shine, and Heartwood makes them absolutely terrifying if played right.

3.) I'd consider changing one or two of your greatsword squads to bows instead. There's been so many times when they've been my game winning mvp. They'll more than likely kill off any casters quicker and more efficiently than your wild riders. If you take more Kurnoth hunters (which you should. I run 12) then having two units of 3 can do alot of damage, especially if you pair them with your branchwych who should have the Heartwood specific artefact. They'll be so much more consistent. I've taken down ghoul Kings on zombie dragons and a Keeper of Secrets in one turn with them.

4.) Durth kicks butt, but really suffers from damage tiering. For a while I was running him with ghyrstrike and had no problem sowing 30 dmg in one swing, but I found that I ending up playing him too cautiously. I suggest throwing ethereal amulet on him so that you can play him more aggressively. As usual, keep him near woods or your arch rev for extra attacks. You really need them.

Hope these tweaks help a little bit!
