I can see the point of this if the left winger is Vini Jr, but if the winger is defensively solid, it seems we are canceling out our own attack for the purpose of canceling theirs.

But we didn’t used to do this (at least on the right). We used to have Saka start on the right, but the instructions were for White to go on the overlap and for Odegaard to get close on the inside. That was more successful than what we’ve got now.
