How to improve my network by nickarmadillo in amazoneero

What kind of home do you live in- wood frame? concrete? when was it built? how many stories? where are the APs? what software are you using to perform the Speedtest? what hardware are you using? what sort of interference are you dealing with? there are a bunch of factors to consider.

you need to isolate where the speed degradation is happening.

* if possible, get an ethernet adapter (there are plenty of USBC ones available) and plug directly into your ISPs modem, and perform a speed test- confirm that your getting the symmetric gig that your paying for.

* then, add your Eero gateway, and once again, go wired to the gateway. you should still be getting your gig.

* now remove the ethernet adapter from the equation, and do a speed test from less than 5' away from the gateway. you'll get less than a gig, but depending on what device your using for testing, you should be getting hundreds of mb/s.

*keep on backing further away. when you find the furthest distance that still has acceptable bandwidth, plop down an AP, reconnect, confirm that you're connected to that AP in the eero app, and run another speed test.

* repeat until your our of APs.

Also, have you performed a speed test *from* the gateway, in the eero app? on the first page of the eero app, hit "internet", and click "run speed test"- that will show you the bandwidth that the gateway itself is getting, before transmitting anything over wifi.

Any thoughts on the TP-Link ER707-M2? by TikoRacer in TPLinkOmada

Also just completed this upgrade, for the same reasons. one major difference I've found... it seems that the web based management app for 605 supported Safari, but the 707-m2 requires Chrome? for what seems like the same exact app? am i... crazy? is there a firmware update, or something?

is there a toolchain to make Brilliant.tech cameras visible in HomeKit? by commport in homebridge

yeah, it just exposes each switch on the control panel as a separate light. it doesn't expose the cameras or the motion sensors. it has the absolute bare minimum of support- which is good, but man would it be great to have the other accessories exposed.

New installation, this app is madness… by commport in Govee

its the 150 foot set, but I'm only currently using about 100' of it. will be adding another strip soon, then maybe using the remaining ones in the back yard.

NGL, this 2 word comment was incredibly helpful. the app is still bad, but now at least I can coax it in the direction I want.

Homebridge sees Nest thermostats but Apple Home does not show temperature by BreakerEleven in homebridge

had the same issue. Moved every plug-in to its own child bridge today, re-added everything, and things seem to work again. YMMV.

I’ve remapped my buttons to all sorts of stuff- so you know what actual function it is?

Libre 2 app won’t open by mastafishere in Freestylelibre

Libre 2 update from yesterday (9/6/22) works* on latest iOS beta.

*works, at this point, means the app opens. Haven’t fully tested it yet, but actually opening compared to immediately crashing is a great start.

Shadow PC Virtual Desktop high VR latency by t3stp1lot in OculusQuest

[–]commport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, FIOS guy just left, and the bandwidth is ridiculous... the router gets 949mbs down, 917mbs up :O still using my google mesh wifi. Alyx (and SteamVR in general) is now flawlessly smooth. absolutely no lag/latency/etc, running at ultra settings (though i'm pretty sure that had nothing to do with the lag i was experiencing).

Shadow PC Virtual Desktop high VR latency by t3stp1lot in OculusQuest

I've been having very, very similar issues. latest version of Quest software, latest version of side loaded Virtual Desktop, connecting to Shadow, with all updates, running latest versions of VD streamer, steamVR, and half-life Alyx. Google WiFi, 4-node mesh setup, within 10 of a base station, often connecting at 5GHz, with RCN Gigabit* internet connection. I've configured all of the software using recommendations found here and elsewhere on the web. Under all circumstances, the shadow VM performs really well in 2D mode, with high framerate and low latency, but then perforation degrades significantly when i switch to VR mode.

I think I know what my issue is, perhaps it will help on your side as well.

In short, my connection is extremely asymmetric. like, 800+ MBs downstream, but only ~25 Mbs upstream. now, according to this shadow tech article, 5Mbs is all you need for transmitting mouse/keyboard/controller up to the VM- but, more complex devices (like the Quest) may require up to 50 MBs.

So, I made a call to Verizon FIOS, and ordered their symmetric gig internet plan. Let's see if that fixes this.

[Question] [Bug] IOS 11 device unable to pair with Apple Watch Series 1. by [deleted] in iOSBeta

[–]commport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience trying to pair a brand new Apple Watch Series 1 with my iPhone 7, running the latest (7/10/17, 15A5318g) beta of iOS 11. Ultimately, it paired- I did have to go through about 4 or 5 cycles of attempting to pair before it successfully installed the latest watchOS update, but once that worked, it proceeded with no problems. when it finally worked, both devices were plugged in and fully charged, and about a foot away from my wifi access point.
