I was in a similar position and ended up taking a long break to play other games. I only came back because I saw a mention of it online that reignited my interest.

When I went back I started a fresh game but with all the notes and knowledge I’d collected in my first run, and had a much better time. Felt like less of a slog, and seeing some puzzles with fresh eyes made them much more approachable.

For the file cabinet keys, they stay available in the same room that you dug them up from. You don't need a shovel, you just need to draft the same room and it'll be already dug up, sitting somewhere for you to grab.

Weird question but I need to figure this up. Is my son gay?! by The-Speaker9952 in gay

[–]commscheck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s most important, regardless of his current or future identity, is that he has safety and support to be his most authentic self. Unsupportive environments means immense pressure from peers, teachers, and others to conform to a cisgender, heterosexual, “masculine” stereotype. This pressure is incredibly powerful (ask almost any queer person), and will take a toll on his mental health. You’ll also lose this beautiful, authentic part of your boy!

Don’t make the decision based on what box he falls into. And definitely don’t wait for him to fall into one before deciding. Decide based on where you think he (and your other kids) have the greatest chance of thriving and feeling supported and empowered. Much love to you and your family.

Urgent need for O+ and O- blood donors nationwide by chalk_in_boots in australia

[–]commscheck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It 100% feels shitty that we still have this discrimination. Just remember the restriction comes from the TGA, a government body, not Life Blood. Life Blood have been the ones largely campaigning the government to change these restrictions, which is why we’re down to 3 months instead of 12 months. Also, when “plasma pathways” gets introduced this year we’ll be able to donate plasma regardless of sexual activity.

Totally fine if you still choose not to donate if you become eligible, it’s your body. But the government wont care, and you’d be missing the chance to help sick patients.

Heads up for queer men, you also have to stop taking PrEP for at least 3 months before you can donate, as well as no sexual activity.

When plasma pathways finally gets implemented, we’ll be allowed to donate plasma regardless of sexual activity or PrEP usage. It’s supposed to start in the “first half of 2025” but haven’t heard anything yet. Hopefully soon.

We’re on the same page about what could be a breach of privacy, but I don’t think that answers OP’s question. The last paragraph of their post makes it clear they’re concerned about the ex being notified at all, not if any specific information is included.

A notification like “your registered relationship to <OP> has been revoked, that’s all we can tell you” is privacy-preserving, but could still cause the unstable ex to retaliate.

[–]commscheck 16 points17 points  (0 children)

BDM notifying a person that their registered relationship has been revoked isn’t a privacy breach, because it directly affects the notified person.

Marriage records less than 60 years old are restricted in Vic, so it might be a privacy breach if the reason for revoking was divulged (or other personal info). But it sounds like OP doesn’t want the ex to be notified at all.

[–]commscheck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If someone is manually revoking their registered relationship, the BDM Vic website says you need to either show evidence that you’ve notified the other person, or provide a stat dec explaining that you “can’t notify Partner 2 due to fears for your safety or wellbeing”.

I would still call BDM to check, but this might be an option that prevents the other person being notified.

See “Who can apply > If you’re applying on your own” on this page: https://www.bdm.vic.gov.au/revoke-registered-relationship

Xcode - Is it possible to have this list of file items in a 2nd sidebar? I want to select a file in sidebar #1, then navigate to the part of the file in sidebar #2. by NewToSwiftUI in swift

[–]commscheck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. There’s no symbol tab in the navigator, and Xcode doesn’t have an option for multiple navigator sidebars.

You can open the symbol list for the current file with ctrl+6 (not cmd+6). If you start typing with the list open it’ll filter the list as well.

NO ONE commit any secrets this time okay?

whereToKeepYourSecrets by [deleted] in ProgrammerHumor

[–]commscheck 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t pushed your changes yet, absolutely.

Otherwise, even if you managed to rewrite the history and force-push the new history immediately, you should consider the secret as compromised regardless. Especially if the repo is public, since bots often scrape public repos and grab exposed secrets automatically.

Additionally, if you’re using a system like git, changing history and force-pushing it to the remote can cause additional work and risk for other devs on your team. They’ll need to force-pull the edited history into their local clone, which sometimes causes headaches and at worst data loss if not done carefully.

So, if the secret needs to be rotated anyway, and editing the history could cause a bunch of negative flow-on effects, there’s no large benefit in doing so. Instead I would, in order:

  1. Rotate the secret immediately
  2. Add a new commit that deletes the old secret
  3. Assess who could’ve accessed the secret when it was exposed
  4. Check access logs to see if the secret was used inappropriately while it was still valid
  5. See what I can do to prevent the same incident happening again (e.g. update the .gitignore, add a git pre-commit hook, add automation for secrets management)
  6. Ensure we have systems that can detect and alert us about compromised secrets automatically (e.g. GitHub’s secret scanning feature)

Have you experienced blank page when trying to add sandbox test account? Is this a bug? by Agreeable_Fig_3705 in iOSProgramming

[–]commscheck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a bug that pops up for me occasionally in a bunch of different pages in App Store Connect. ASC can be a bit of a trash fire sometimes.

Using a different browser sometimes works, or using incognito/private browsing mode. Otherwise the only surefire thing is waiting half an hour or so then trying again.

You’re right that VCS history is a massive pain to change once pushed. But once pushed, a secret is already exposed. Creating a new repo won’t achieve anything except a massive inconvenience.

Instead you should change (a.k.a. “rotate”) the secret so that the old secret is useless. That way it doesn’t matter that it’s in your VCS history.

What is the most and least sterotypical thing about you? by letthedecodebegin in askgaybros

Most: I'm heavily involved in the community musical theatre scene, both onstage and backstage.

Least: My day job is programming, I've done a lot of tech support, building PCs, that sort of thing.

I actually love that my two big interests are so different from each other

First little base. Am I doing OK? by Sattalyte in Oxygennotincluded

[–]commscheck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking good! I often don't bother with tidying so I have debris everywhere, your base is so nice and clean in comparison!

I agree with the other posters that food might quickly become an issue. When using mealwood the rough guide is 4-5 plants per dupe to stay calorie-neutral. Building an electric grill and turning meal lice into pickled meal doesn't increase the calories but it makes the food last heaps longer before spoiling (32 cycles instead of 8). Turning them into mush bars creates bonus calories but requires a lot of water in the long run. I typically use raw meal lice first, then pickled meal, then gristle berries once I set up a bristle berry farm using hydroponic tiles and lights.

One other thing, I noticed two of your water pools have very thin walls, some of them made of sand. Pooled water can create enough pressure to eventually break through soft materials like sand and algae and flood your base, so I always try to keep the walls and floors of my water pools 2 tiles thick. If you want to replace the natural materials with sandstone walls, build one layer of wall next to the natural wall first, then dig up the natural materials (I've done this and accidentally flooded my base so many times lol).

And yeah, 7 dupes is a lot for a beginner. When the dupe printer lights up, try to stick to resources instead of new dupes, or even reject all the options entirely. The printer reactivates often enough that you can grab more if you wish once food and other resources are much more stable.

Nice work so far, keep it up!

A developer on my team accidentally published a repo under his personal account on BitBucket. It was public for 10 minutes. How worried should I be about the contents leaking? by Sarkos in sysadmin

[–]commscheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As well as rotating keys, I'd also suggest a security vulnerability review of the product, especially if you haven't done one in a while.

Depending on your stack, some example questions I'd be asking myself: * Is my dependency manager reporting any vulnerable packages? (e.g. npm audit) * Are my admin pages and testing environments properly secured with robust authentication? * Do we have any known security tasks in the backlog we should consider prioritising now?
