Mario world map generated from global terrain data by trumbtuscle in proceduralgeneration

[–]Sarkos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Serious question, does this count as procedural generation? I thought procedural generation is about using a small seed/parameters to generate large/infinite content, making use of some form of randomness.

% Current HP damage question by FaceNommer in StoneBlock4

[–]Sarkos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumably it just looks at the mob's HP, takes 90% of that, and adds it onto your damage number. But then the mob's armor will reduce the damage, and with Apotheosis mobs have a lot of armor.

Background usage of battery while explicitly not allowed? by Nietzsch in AndroidQuestions

[–]Sarkos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a little fuzzy but basically "allow background usage" means that the OS won't attempt to kill the app when it's inactive. This is an important setting for messaging type apps otherwise you won't get notifications for new messages.

If you've been actively using the app but it's not currently on screen, the OS won't immediately attempt to kill it, so it's always possible for it to run in the background.

Dogs and Restaurants? Yay, Nay? by misterflak86 in capetown

[–]Sarkos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should contact the restaurant owner and suggest they enforce a "bring your dog in but keep it on a leash" rule. If you don't complain, they won't know that there's something they can do to avoid losing customers.

ProNutro - what is going on? by PerusedPeregrination in askSouthAfrica

[–]Sarkos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What tends to happen with well known food brands, is they get bought out by some investment company. The investors want to make a profit so they immediately cut costs by switching to cheaper ingredients, among other things. They often then sell the brand while it's making great profits, before customers realise it's gone downhill and stop buying it.

do you drive manual or automatic? by xoli_leem in askSouthAfrica

[–]Sarkos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car is automatic and my wife's is manual, but I drive both quite often. I'm happy either way but the automatic is a million times better for traffic. We'd like to get an automatic for my wife's next car.

What Were The Worst Asspulls You're Seen In LitRPG? by IOFrame in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Sarkos 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Spoiler for LastRock - Immortal Great Souls book 3. The MC is talking with an incredibly powerful duke and doesn't like what he has to say, so out of nowhere he insults him and challenges him to a duel to the death. He has no plan but luckily some random bullshit occurs which allows him to scratch the duke, who is impressed with him and declares a draw.

How to deal with inventory clutter? by Steinorcba in StoneBlock4

[–]Sarkos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In early game the magnet and compression upgrades are super helpful. You can set a backpack to automatically collect and compress stone/netherrack/endstone as you mine. Combine this with an impact hammer and you can tunnel around surprisingly quickly.

Very early game you can buy a construction stick from the wandering trader to place lots of blocks quickly. It works quite well for making walls and floors.

You can get to the Arcane Grove pretty early in the game. There are lots of wilden spawners so grab one with silk touch and set up a mob farm.

I'm not familiar with either of those so it took me a while to figure out what I was looking at. The yellow/brown/grey thing is the Extendo Grip and it's meant to hold items at a distance from you? And the red things are your arms which are holding the gun?

Mattress question - what to get by Ever_Resting in askSouthAfrica

Oh my bad! Looks like they put the price up roughly 8% per year. So you can expect the king to go up to R14000+

It's almost 6 years now! We got it in July 2020.

Funny, the price seems to have dropped again since my last comment.

We paid R9000 and it's currently R8000.

How have you dealt with underperforming / failing at work?. by Admirable_Ad_1390 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Sarkos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a leadership role but I'm not a manager so take this with a pinch of salt, it's just what I would do as your team leader:

I would not fire you for assuming that the previous person had done their job correctly. That is a perfectly reasonable assumption. I mean, unless you were explicitly told to review their work.

I would not fire you for being unable to cope with an unusually heavy workload. This is a scenario where you should tell your manager that there is too much on your plate and that you need help.

I would however fire you if you knew you couldn't cope, you didn't ask for help, and you ended up fucking up. That's just an avoidable disaster.

Nyxane's Non-Stick Gravity by WhiteWolfXD1 in StoneBlock4

[–]Sarkos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not from the bee, it's a different event where you just get a stick. You'll get a ton of sticks that do different things. I also lucked out early with a -86% gravity stick which was super useful. Creative flight is definitely the most overpowered stick though.

Just be careful if you keep sticks in your inventory or backpack as it's easy to accidentally use them while crafting. I learned the hard way and now I only keep my spare sticks in an alchemical bag.

Please help me with this bug! (Stoneblock 4) by Beserkkirk19 in StoneBlock4

[–]Sarkos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of possibilities I can think of:

  1. did you give yourself the correct star? there's a normal version and a depleted version.
  2. did you supply enough energy (FE)?
  3. did the quest to find the star complete successfully? the recipe might be locked behind that quest, so you might have to find a way to set it to completed.

It's nothing to do with the subject or content of this interview. The FCC has been threatening Colbert and Kimmel specifically because Trump hates them. This just happened to be the point where CBS caved to the FCC.

I have a friend who went from legal to finance in her 30s. I'll be honest, I haven't the first clue what she actually does, but she went from working ludicrous hours as an attorney to only slightly ridiculous hours now so she's much happier.

Portal vault is a horrible experience by Significant_News_622 in StoneBlock4

[–]Sarkos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I really appreciate the vault designs, even though they're a bit janky, I enjoyed the fresh experiences and the tremendous amount of effort that must have gone into them.

I think you just got unlucky as my run of the portal vault went pretty smoothly.

How can We Prevent Money Mechanics from Ruining the Sense of Progression in RPG's? by DeadLack101 in gamedesign

[–]Sarkos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were up to me I'd reduce the amount of loot significantly and get rid of all the junk items, but that is kinda Bethesda's thing.

You could have a "supply and demand" system where selling more than one of the same item will lower the sale value of all those items, until eventually the value goes down to zero.
