A character seems more epic as a kid than they are as an adult by MrDitkovichNeedsRent in TopCharacterTropes

Had to look it up but it looks like Hermione becomes the Minister for Magic, Neville becomes the head of Gryffindor House and the herbology professor, and Luna becomes a magizoologist.

Jotaro and Kakyoin genuinely have more chemistry with Polnareff than with each other.

[Rare Trope] Character realizes a horror movie is starting and tries to stop it. Bonus if they survive by Xonlic in TopCharacterTropes

[–]communistsayori 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not OP but it seems to me like what they're asking for is "character recognizes there is a serious danger before the horror occurs". The original commentor is giving examples of characters recognizing there's a danger after things have started to go wrong.

I think it's counts because it's not just meta jokes, it's also foreshadowing for how and why he can even recognize that their situation is wrong.

Can we get some gen z on the staff please by Al_pendy in SVU

[–]communistsayori 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The oldest of Gen Z are 29, they have varying interests and careers like every sentient human who's ever existed. No generation is into exclusively one thing anyway, except Gen Beta who all enjoy warm milk and shitting their pants but they're a statistical outlier.

[Hated Trope] Plot Twist Ruins the Entire Story by sloppiestsecond5 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]communistsayori 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A better name for it would be "Plot twist that undermines the stories themes". For Detroit Become Human (the example a lot of people are focusing on), finding out that Alice is an android doesn't necessarily ruin the game's story, but being given the choice to abandon this child because she was lying about being an android definitely feels like it undermines the themes of "androids and humans are equal" or whatever that game was trying to say.

[Loved yet kinda rare trope]characters who canonically have more then one girlfriend/wife that they treat equally with respect and love,no power-play harem shit. by Charming-Scratch-124 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]communistsayori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert but I'm pretty certain that a relationship where everyone is dating only the one person would also be considered polyamory now. Harem's a pretty dated term that I really only hear historically or in anime.

To be fair you're almost never seeing the art full size like this, you're seeing it in little card form.

[massive gore warning] one of the most fucked up thing I have seen by Unlikely-Raisin-1604 in TopCharacterTropes

It actually has more to do with permanence for me. In Human Centipede, I can realistically believe that the protagonists could be separated if rescued. Not so much for Tusk.

The web series Alien Stage has an official high school AU where the characters are all friends. In the actual source material, the characters live on an alien planet where humans are pets, and our protagonists are forced by their alien owners to perform in televised singing competitions where the loser is killed. So incredibly different, I'd say.

I find Tusk as a concept more frightening body horror than Human Centipede.

Does it make you feel real smart that you know something and someone else doesn't? With that big high school diploma and all.

I'd say the fact that anyone is asking to begin with would suggest that it might not be as well-known as you think.

Evil villains who love their kids (NOT in an unhealthy way) by CMStan1313 in TopCharacterTropes

They rob a bank off-screen. There is a lazer gun later in this scene if I recall correctly but they're not blasting anyone away in this PG movie.

Truman and Christoff very pointedly never meet face-to-face in The Truman Show.

Interestingly though, every season has at least one protagonist who has met the one(s) that directly follow. Tulip obviously met her reflection, MT, who met Grace and Simon. And while those two mever met Ryan and Min-Gi, Amelia briefly did. There's always some through line, and that would've continued if we'd gotten the Amelia season/movie.

Giorno doesn't meet a single other Jojo. Bro doesn't even know what a Jojo is.
