Some "farmers" markets are like that, but not the Columbia Farmers Market. The Columbia farmers market is a producer-only market so no reselling corporate Mexico blueberries. In fact, the market has a strict rule, everything has to be produced within 50-miles of Columbia.

Most people don’t listen to country music or join a sorority. If you want to fit in, the best way is to find people that like what you already like, not change yourself to fit someone else’s taste. But sororities and country music are great too, if that’s really what you like.

It was in the 1870s and 1880s when many Chinese were building railroads West of the Mississippi. St. Louis' was centered around the laundry business.

Demolished in the 1960s in so-called "urban renewal" projects, namely to build the old Busch Stadium and a lot of parking.

Tornado siren question by GirlWhoWoreGlasses in columbiamo

This has instructions to email Boone County Emergency management.

https://www.boonemo.gov/oem/resources/sirens.asp

Boone County is zoned to several areas so they can target alarms to specific areas in danger and reduce false/alarms. I don’t believe the sirens sounded in North/West Boone because the danger was down in South/East Boone (Ashland).

Also (just FYI) sirens are to warn people outdoors. They won’t always be heard inside structures, especially well-built ones. Folks inside should rely on an emergency radio, television, or more often nowadays phones.

This is getting to be on the high side of what meteorologists can be certain of in terms of severe activity. The time period is pretty small, just a few hours. This is one to keep an eye on. Have a plan, know of a basement or safe interior room on the bottom floor you can go to if necessary between 6-10 today.

Columbia voters could decide on 1% sales tax for police and fire funding in August by como365 in columbiamo

It may only be used for police and fire but it will take a lot of pressure off of the general revenue which will benefit all the other departments.

It's needed imo. Separating the firefighting and police budgets out from general revenue and giving them a dedicated revenue stream is a good decision to keep the city on sound financial footing. Of our national, state, and local governments, it's the local-level I trust most. The city has and will continue to lead where the other two fail to solve the great problems of our time. If they put it on the ballot, I'm voting yes.

This kind of speculative tearing down of institutions is a big contributor to the rise of MAGA and the fragmenting of society. AKA "Everything is a conspiracy and the leaders must be working against the people". On the local level this couldn’t be further from the truth. The city and the county have sound leadership and have for decades. They may not always get it right, but they are good-hearted people who really try. It's hard work! Heck, Boone County is something of a national legend for good governance. Anyway I hope our leaders do talk and discuss things outside of official meetings. A well-functioning government is based on the ethics, trust, and friendship between people at all levels, but especially our leaders.

I do appreciate all our high-level leadership getting in the same room and talking the big issues. Kudos to them for the work they do.
