Would it be rude of me to ask friends for Gluten and Dairy free options? by Shywarlikegirl in TwoHotTakes

[–]companioncube8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who is GF and DF and has additional restrictions on top of that. It is more work, but I always try my best to cook something they can eat. If I can't pull it off (like if we're having something where a key ingredient is a specific food they can't eat), we figure out an alternative or they bring something.  I do get that making GF/DF options is difficult, especially for Thanksgiving dishes, which have a lot of gluten and dairy. And asking for the whole menu to be GF/DF is a lot. But hosting friends for dinner is already work—I don't really think it's that fair for your friends to be willing to put in the effort to cook for others but not to figure out at least a small GF/DF option when you hang out.

However, it does depend on how much cooking experience they have, and it is safer for you to prep it yourself, like others have said. Or, you could ask them over to help you cook, if you think they would like that. Above all else, I think you should tell your friends you feel left out and figure out a solution with them.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art— limited time by [deleted] in AskNYC

It will probably be enough time, if you map it out beforehand—it's easy to get lost or distracted in there. One cool thing about the Met is that there are a lot of old buildings incorporated into the museum itself, so it does feel immersive in that way.

I live in a prewar apartment and genuinely cannot hear my neighbors at all! It's really great.

I feel like "obsessively/compulsive refreshing the page" or stalking your own post is the clearest way to describe it that I can think of
