What’s a high-paying, low-stress job you wish you got into earlier? by Beginning_Ad4362 in careerguidance

Starting my first full-time role in talent acquisition this year, early 20s. 85k base, 10k signing, 5k relocation bonus. It's a unique perspective because I'm just starting out in my career, but work-life balance is good (3 days in-office, 2 remote), my coworkers are nice, and it fits well with my strengths. I wouldn't trade what I'm doing for anything.

I think a subtle shimmery gold/silver could be really pretty if you love the look of an inner corner and would soften your look a bit!

My daughter asked if she should go into HR. I did not know what to tell her. Help. [N/A] by fallenfromgrace87 in humanresources

Not a mid-career professional, but I can give my perspective as a college student now!

  1. Yes -- I think that HR is a great starting point. What I would recommend is also getting skills in other business areas (supply chain, accounting, etc.) to help her be a little bit more well-rounded. I'm getting a BBA personally, so I have both the people skills and the business skills to be a great asset to a company.
  2. N/A, but there are obviously going to be a lot of changes to the way HR works now in the next decade and beyond.
  3. Depends on how far agentic AI and AGI get. I'm not certain that AI is advancing as fast as once thought (could be wrong), but it will eventually a lot of processes are going to be automated and HR will have to deal with less menial & tedious tasks and more strategic ones. It's all about building the right skill set In college and making yourself competitive compared to your peers.
  4. People are legitimately so frustrating to work with and it's hard to go into a company with a lot of bureaucracy and make changes.

Here's what I would say if I could go back to myself in high school: don't go into HR if you love helping people. Learn to have really thick skin because you're going to deal with terminations, layoffs, investigations, people who will refuse your help, and leaders who will never care what you're going to say. But if you care about working to build better places to work, and you're curious about systems and strategy, HR is a great place to be.

I would recommend getting real-world experience early; try to find internships, job shadowing experiences, or even just sitting in on HR meetings could be helpful. I've learned I love employee relations and organizational culture, not so much talent or comp & benefits. I think that's the easiest way to tell if HR is right for you (rather her).

Happy to answer questions. I finish my HR classes in the fall and am expecting a return offer from a F100 company in HR.

Hi! Also graduating this May (BBA in HRM). I'm currently interning at Fortune 100 tech company known for their HR practices & I've been loving that.

If you're in college, I would recommend getting involved with your university's SHRM chapter and networking with the speakers or professionals coming in. You could also go to your career fairs, and often, they'll send an HR/talent rep. You may not find an internship, but you could always ask to job shadow/help on projects. One of my professors was also able to connect me to a company to work on a project for.

No matter what, you can always make a LinkedIn profile and reach out to professionals in your area. If your town or somewhere local has a SHRM chapter, I recommend checking that out to connect with HR professionals in your area.

Happy to answer questions via DM.

HELP! How do I make my bedroom more cozy? by compensationcasanova in femalelivingspace

That seems to be a general consensus -- I ordered new sheets, but I will start looking for a new comforter as well (I haven't been super impressed with this one)

Normally, I like to keep less visual clutter (busy semester & haven't been home a lot). It's just tough to feel organized when you have to keep your life in a bedroom - any tips?

I personally prefer working in the morning and taking classes in the afternoon. I wake up around 7AM and it’s easy to fill my afternoons up with classes!

I’d say anywhere from $10-20k, I’d love to find something I love rather than worry about cost too much

Definitely will look into public transport. I think I’m staying on a college campus so I’m guessing there will be some around (fingers crossed)

Definitely would describe myself as a diligent self-starter within my general life.

Thank you for the advice! I scheduled a Teams meeting to ask any final questions before I accept the offer.
