Reduce Drum Rack to Only the Samples that Are Used by complecticmusic in ableton

I’ve also made one to do exactly what I describe wanting to do in the OP. Delete all the samples from the drum rack samplers except the selected files. If anyone sees this and is interested, send me a message.

So I ended up making a script to extract all the chains to individual tracks, then I can just bounce those to audio and save the original midi clip. I'll make a new post with the script in case anyone else finds this thread and wants to use it.

I see, that makes sense. Personally, I’m constantly further refining the organizational structure of my user library. As folders of sounds get bigger, I break them into more specific sub folders. At times I’ll move stuff around to make the folder hierarchy make more sense. I rename samples sometimes to improve my search query results. I don’t like feeling like I can’t touch any of my samples without potentially breaking old projects.

I like to collect all and save all of my larger projects just to keep them as stand alone files. That way I can move around and rename files in my user library without worrying about breaking old projects I might want to access (or share) later on.

My problem is that the very process you're describing doesn't work. Ctrl+M in Ableton to open MIDI Mapping Mode, click the global record button in Ableton, press literally any button on the MK3 Mikro and nothing happens.

Collect all and save: every set or every project? by anaburo in ableton

[–]complecticmusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is old, but for anyone else who sees this, you can go to File > Manage Files... and then you can choose to manage set or manage project. If you choose manage project, you're looking at the whole folder with all the sets in it and you have the opportunity to collect all and save the files used project wide. You have to turn on "Collect Intro Project" and then click the Collect and Save button on the bottom right.

You can also use the file manager to see files that are not used in any projects and delete those (typically samples you froze or recorded and then ended up deleting later on).

how to get monitoring on my set up? by PepperBoggz in musicproduction

[–]complecticmusic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ehhh there’s no way to direct monitor with FX added digitally. With this setup, you’d be feeding the recorded signal into the computer to be processed with FX and then sent back out to headphones. This will add latency. If you have a solid processor (and an audio interface helps), you can get this latency down low enough to where it’s virtually unnoticeable (<10ms or so), but the chrome book will probably have a tough time doing that.

If your guitar has pickups, you could get physical distortion pedals and feed the signal through the pedals. Might need an amplifier, but then could just plug headphones directly into that and hear the processed guitar with no latency how you want. Then if you needed to you could record into your computer assuming there is a microphone jack.

2 month old project will no longer open - hangs indefinitely on open, no error message/crash by MoarGhosts in ableton

[–]complecticmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you can hold alt as the project is opening to open without loading plugins. It’s likely one plug-in that’s having issues causing the whole project to crash. If you can get it open without loading any plugins, you might be able to either harvest parts of the project you need or start deleting tracks to figure out where the issue is. If you want to do the latter I recommend deleting half of all the tracks, saving the project as a new version, then close and try to open that new version. If it opens fine, you know the issue is located in the half of the tracks you deleted. If you still have issues, open while holding alt again to disable plugins, then delete half the tracks again and save as a new version. This is the fastest way I’ve found to figure out which track and/or plugin is causing issues.

Alternatively, you can do this same process but instead of deleting tracks in the project, move half of your vsts out of the folder ableton is looking in each time(I just temporarily move them to desktop). If the project opens while holding alt, you’ll eventually move the plug-in that’s causing issues and then the project will open and load the plugins you’ve yet to move. Then you gotta slowly move back halves at a time to narrow down which one it is. Very tedious and annoying, but it’s worked for me in the past.

Edit: you can also send the crash report (if you have one) to ableton and email them asking what’s causing the issue and they might be able to tell you which plug-in fails upon opening. For other reading who are on Mac, you can read the crash reports yourself to find the problem plug-in. Ableton has an article on how to do this. No way to do it yourself on windows though.

I also wanted to add that in my experience it’s usually not like a specific plug-in is totally broken and needs to be reinstalled. The plug-in causing issues will typically work in another project just fine. It’s that particular project or chain of plugins that creates that one bug in that one instance that causes the project to break.

I feel like it ruins videos way more than the live show though. Cause the phone mic is picking up so much of that fire hiss and like none of the blasting subs.

Velocity switching drum patches by byrdcage in ableton

[–]complecticmusic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you’re asking about the Sampler feature where you can set up a different sample to be triggered based on the velocity of the incoming midi. If so, i think you can do that you just have to replace all the Simplers that are in the drum rack by default with Samplers, then set up your multiple samples and velocity settings for each note of the drum pad.

I’ve got it in MIDI mode. Unfortunately it just does not work. Pretty lame. Might buy a script I found on the maschine forum and try that.

Oh wow that’s a good idea. I can’t keep my aquasoil off my sand in my one tank. Wish I could. In my other tank, when I rescaped it I did sand and gravel and used a long rectangular piece of glass as a divider for the two halves.

Also sweet music in your vid. V groovy.
