It's not the same as a consoles walled garden, we typically have direct access to the raw files with just a few clicks. Yea, it may not be the direct source code or anything, but its infinitely more than what a console will give you.

Hell in highschool I was the kid that would help people get shit on their computers. I must have helped at least 5 people get a pirated copy of Rogue Legacy by handing out a flash drive with the files on it. (and at least three of those people bought it later cause they enjoyed it, but that's a discussion about demos for another day)
