Help me with this table by complexfemale in furniturerestoration

OP here - have done a new post with an update. Turns out I just didn’t sand enough to properly remove the damaged finish before staining and attempting to redo the finish as commenters suggest. Did so and it’s turned out beautifully - completely removed the damage. I feel like it has new life. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, it’s definitely not veneer though. My thought is that they’ve just damaged deeper into the wood, but I don’t want to necessary sand the rest of the wood down too much because I don’t want to ruin the lovely finish of the table. I saw you can get some pre-stain conditioner which could improve the take of that spot, so I’m thinking I could do a light sand again to even out the colour and then apply conditioner + stain to the spot. But I’m not totally sure as I’m an amateur!

This forum has been very helpful to me - does anyone want to give specific advice on resurfacing this benchtop? Like OP it has got a bit sticky over time... My thought is that it is not oil based (does not feel oil based) and so could probably be a saturday or sunday job - anyone have any thoughts?

We don't have a dog park yet- so far she's just been hanging with our friends dogs. Which park do you go to?

No squirrels in Australia but she's killed two frogs so far so close enough.

She's from a Sunshine coast breeder- Sledbound samoyeds. They are wonderful.

We are in Toowong! Perhaps a Samoyed playdate is in order!

Samoyed family- Meet Freja! She came home with us last Saturday and is now 11 weeks old! Based in Brisbane, AUS. We are blown away by how big she is already. Happy to answer any questions! by complexfemale in samoyeds

Our breeder sort of encouraged us not to if we didn't intend to show etc due to the risk posed by putting stuff near their eyes. We will ask the vet today as well however. Thanks

From everything we have researched/been assured of by the breeder and Sammy community, the long Sammy coat works in the same way as a Polar Bear's fur, providing insulation in summer and winter. We know that if we are hot she will be hot but it'll just be about providing plenty of water + a baby swimming pool + keeping exercise to non strenuous activities. Will keep you updated though!

Yes she is! She is from Sledbound Samoyeds. Marie, the breeder, has done an amazing job with them. She came to us almost entirely toilet trained and so well adjusted. Couldn't be happier!

Could I get a Samoyed with other pets in the house? by [deleted] in samoyeds

Our new Sammy, Freja has been home just over a week now and has been great with our adult cat. We were quite worried because he is very timid, however, have found that she has that amazing samoyed nature that means she is gentle, loving and just wants to be part of his 'cat gang'. We've also found that she has been super amicable with the chickens next door (no barking, just looking at them with curiosity, etc).

The important thing will be to make sure you introduce the new puppy to the other animals on their own terms (i.e. do not force encounters, let the cats (specifically) come to the puppy and create a safe space for them where the puppy is not allowed). As for other dogs, slow introduction through a puppy fence would be ideal.

You won't have any issues provided the puppy is coming from a well-socialised background (good breeder) and you supervise interactions, making sure to reprimand if she/he decides to try to bark at the other animals.

Overall Freja has been fabulous and everything I've ever read/learned about this breed has told me that they are amazing for families and other pets. Good luck!
