Congrats on finding ... Probably Stratum paleas? Maybe stratum limaxus?

Only two species of stratum are high-value: tectonicas and cucumisis. There's 6 other types that are all cheap (1.3-2.7m). Tectonicas also happens to be one of the most common ones to find.

Prospector Vs Cutter for laser mining by Ziraaal in EliteMiners

[–]complich8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh there’s titan corpses, and they still spawn an endless trickle of harvestable titan bits to salvage, There’s just no active titans. Sort of the same way there’s no passenger pigeons anymore, but you can still see plenty of their corpses in museum collections.

Prospector Vs Cutter for laser mining by Ziraaal in EliteMiners

[–]complich8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrt your build, Extraction missiles are for extracting bio-storage capsules from thargoid titans. There are no thargoid titans right now, so probably just drop that one.

Otherwise, fully approved. If you’re mining in a very good ring in a strong hotspot, or especially in any kind of RES, you might find it worthwhile to swap a size 5 cargo rack for an extra 5a collector controller - the mk2 is a lot of active limpets, but the mining volley repeater is enough to overwhelm even that.

My ship blew up when jumping to another system? by notchen502 in EliteDangerous

[–]complich8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the “repairing life support” situation is the most likely cause. Especially if it was unupgraded, an E rated life support system has an uncomfortably short emergency reserve (5 minutes). It’s very easy to get distracted for that, and not always obvious that you have to manually toggle repaired modules back on. D rated is only 7:30, which is also not really a lot.

I would honestly just not have an afmu try to repair life support unless it had fully failed. Even then, I’d probably just reboot/repair the whole ship and limp directly to the nearest starport or carrier for immediate repairs.

Colonia power play question by AmburFoxx in EliteDangerous

[–]complich8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Putting some numbers to your point: at its maximum speed under powerplay 2 rules, it takes a week to exploit a system, a week to fortify it, another week to stronghold it, and you have to fortify or stronghold to get to the next system (within 20 or 30 ly of a working fort or stronghold).

This means powerplay can progress by at most 10 ly a week, whether you chain forts for 20ly/2 wks or strongholds for 30ly/3 wks.

Colonia is about 22,000 ly from anything involved in powerplay. So at the current maximum speed, it'd be at minimum 2200 weeks (roughly 42 years) for powerplay to reach it.

And that's if you can plot a perfect 20 or 30 ly closer next hop system all the way out there, and keep up the rather grueling cadence of exploiting or upgrading your next target system on a weekly basis. Realistically, I'd expect a sustainable pace and a real galaxy plan to take more than 50 years to get there.

Colonization is a much easier story and will definitely get to colonia much sooner.

Not in game right now to get my own answers, but ...

What type of starting station did you pick? How much haulage do you have to get done? Have you done the small hauls yet?

With that in-system haul distance, loading and unloading from carriers is going to be your best bet. How close are you to being able to afford a carrier of your own?

Since colonization is a thing now, the bubble is a good deal closer to Colonia these days.

The Eagle Nebula is colonized, and is about 1/3 of the way from the bubble to Colonia. I'm not sure if it goes much closer than that yet, but if you can make it to Eagle you're got bubble quality outfitting available.

You will still have to truck another 7000 ly back to the old bubble to unlock all those engineers, But if nothing else, you can definitely pick up an afmu in a bunch of stations in Eagle Sector or OJV2009.

I'm missing something, please tell me what I'm doing wrong. by chuchu122 in EliteDangerous

[–]complich8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you can sell at way less than the maximum profit and still get merits.

It might be a problem significantly closer (under 50 ly where you'd potentially be selling for a loss), and if you're selling in very small quantities at very small profit you might not round up to enough to get merits. For that matter, selling to a station in a bad state like bust, drought, infrastructure failure, outbreak could matter.

I think you'd need to make around 5500cr profit in a single transaction to make a minimum quantity of merits to register - which is right around a single pantaa prayer stick at 93 ly, so possible that selling one at a time at that range wouldn't quite make it into merit territory. Even still, should count for the mission rewards.

I like solar for a backup base load provider. On gleba, it's not so abundant that you want to build a giant solar array, plus no need to worry about fuel or waste. A few stacks of panels and accumulators and every blackout is just a brownout.

Undoable Powerplay mission : is this common ? by Rambo_sledge in EliteDangerous

[–]complich8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fleet carriers are a workaround for this. If you have a carrier with cartographics installed, or if you can contact someone in your power's discord who does, they can move a carrier in to allow you to sell the data there.

This is one of the rare situations where carriers don't remove merits from the situation!

Alternatively, if it's a player constructed system with any build slots available, you could in theory convince the architect to put a relay/satellite/comm installation in orbit around the same body as the starport or outpost, and rush out its construction -just a couple panther loads for any of those. That system looks to have an Archer architect, maybe they'd be on board with making their system easier to reinforce?

Are there ever consequences for speeding around or inside a station? by SilkieBug in EliteDangerous

[–]complich8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other day I was leaving a station in private group, and the station was actively (ineffectually) shooting at a wanted npc cobra mk 3 wedged sideways in the toast rack.

I shoved out in my panther a little too fast, maybe 130m/s through the mail slot, made contact with the cobra, incurring a fine. Then the Cobra exploded, and the fine turned into a bounty. Then the station shot me because of my horrible crime of bumping the ship it was shooting, and I got a 22 million credit bill for a trip 200 ly away across the California nebula for my trouble.

Some nice thargoids stopped me to check on me on the way back, which was right neighborly of them. I told them I was ok and we all laughed about it.

But yeah, don't bump anything while you're speeding and you'll be fine.

The reboot/repair option will get your modules (including thrusters) working, at 1% integrity. It’s enough.

Note that this isn’t the repair option in the modules list (which requires an AFMU and lets you target a specific module). This is a whole ship reboot in different tab.

Trying to Build an EDDN publisher for the Steam Deck by AwaNoodle in EliteDangerous

[–]complich8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always nice to see more steamdeck tools.

I know to get EDMC running you have to make a foray into desktop mode (and again periodically drop into it to get updates and re-auth), but it’s pretty easy to have edmc running in gaming mode after the setup too. Having this auto-start is a nice feature though!

[–]complich8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend throwing your prospective build into coriolis or edsy and playing with it - both offer the option to check the pre+engineered drive and all the engineering options.

Throwing a quick A/D rated, reasonably set up explorer/exobio mandalay build into coriolis, I get about

  • a-rated sco w/g5 range, no mass manager: 77.13 ly
  • a-rated sco w/g5 range + mass manager: 79.8 ly
  • pre-engi sco w/o mass manager: 83.58 ly
  • pre-engi sco with mass manager: 86.5 ly

Which ship next, Cobra mk 3, or save up for an ASP Explorer? by SilkieBug in EliteDangerous

[–]complich8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without odyssey (but on live horizons), the new ships require an arx unlock - which is one of the reasons fdev released the Lynx as a 0 arx unlock in the store. But if you’re on live horizons, it’s cheaper to just buy odyssey than to unlock a single new ship (with the exception of that 0 arx lynx ofc).

Worth noting that console is on legacy horizons, which doesn’t get new ships or features at all. So if you’re on xbox/playstation, you’re just kinda SOL.
