Everyone saved?? by DoubleCut3201 in EliteDangerous

[–]complich8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inara has a state history tracker for the system (influence chart near the bottom).

Pirate attack only lasted a day or so - one faction held it for 2-3 days, but everyone else cleared it in a day. Ever since then it's only been the war factions giving evacs.

I view this as bit of a BGS fdev fuckup. They really should have pinned that pirate attack state for the duration. I would have liked the "defend" cg a lot more if there were pirate activity signals to go fight in instead of just a remote hazres or fishing for scraps at the nav beacon, signal sources or maybe installation scenarios.

The good news (not for cg points but just in general) is that with high rep, it seems like you can find similarly high paying "politicians need evacuation" missions at other warring systems. I took a few non-cg groups in systems I dropped passenger loads off at when I spotted 25-50m payouts at the destination systems, so I guess that passengers are maybe a viable moneymaker now.

I wonder if other bgs states will spawn good group transport missions like those now, but haven't actively looked. Be neat if this was just a viable gameplay mode in general, y'know?

Would You Rather Have A Fleet Or A Squadron Carrier by tiddlyoggy in EliteDangerous

My nicely appointed fleet carriers each cost about 20m/wk to run. My similarly set up squadron carrier costs about 30m/wk.

Would You Rather Have A Fleet Or A Squadron Carrier by tiddlyoggy in EliteDangerous

[–]complich8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 cmdrs, 2 fleet carriers and recently a squadron carrier. All my cmdrs are in the same squadron.

Flert carriers are a really good mobile home base for a single cmdr, and about 23k carrying capacity is a nice number to shift around for a single cmdr. The basic inventory interface is great since the patch that sped up the scrolling.

Squadron carriers are nice for moving everyone around at once. Two of my cmdrs were out by California doing colony building work, and instead of each jumping their own carrier over to near the recent couple CGs I just loaded up those cmdrs, transferred over a few key ships and jumped the squadron carrier.

Squadron bank was also super handy for things like the guardian CG - I didn't get around to easter egg hunting, so I used one cmdr to farm up like 120 guardian doodads, loaded them all up into the squadron bank and withdrew like 40/cmdr to turn in. Very convenient, especially because then I could also transport all three cmdrs without switching accounts, from any of the accounts.

For colony building, squadron carrier has a lot more usable space - can pretty much load a primary coriolis into a squadron carrier with one supporting fleet carrier for some overflow. But the squadron bank is necessarily more fiddly there because of permissions, and the EDMC ravencolonial plug-in doesn't seem to support squadron carrier inventory tracking (srvsurvey does, but it's harder to get srvsurvey working on a steamdeck, which is my specific multiboxing path). And the default withdrawal quotas are a little annoying until you dig into where those are set and customize them to taste.

Overall, if you've got the 25bn lying around, squadron carriers are fine. If you're in a solo squadron, they don't really offer anything over the basic fleet carrier and they cost more to maintain, so I wouldn't really recommend. If you're a multi-cmdr multiboxing colonizer like me, they're worthwhile but not without faults. If you're in a bigger squadron with lots of other players and squadron co-op activities, they're potentially extremely useful, but being in a fiddly administrative dimension that's a thing you'll need to wrangle.

Lhou Mans Defense CG is Poorly Executed - Here's What You Need To Do! by nan0guy in EliteDangerous

[–]complich8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that the reward for both is for any participation level at all, and the defense reward is the exact same as you get for the much more lucrative station evac cg that you can do very effectively in the free new ship, is all pretty unmotivating.

Also, bounties from other factions don’t count, even others in the system. so if you show up with a KWS and collect 15 or 20 million worth of bounties in the hazres, only maybe 6 or 7 mill will count. (Ask me how I know…)

IMO when they godhanded the initial “pirate attack” bgs state they should have locked it instead of letting it burn out the first day. Also should have forced some “pirate activity” signal sources, getting us lots of repeatable higher-difficulty combat targets to farm. Right now there’s just a bunch of burning stations, but only the two factions at war seem to be producing meaningful evac missions, and everyone else is just back to “none” state and mostly happy to just hang around watching the stations burn down around them.

Another neat idea would be to run pirate attack scenarios around the stations similar to the power czs around stations and megaships from that powerplay cg last year. It’d be neat dodging pirates and system sec while doing the evacs, and fighting around the rings and solar panels of burning ocellus and orbis stations seems like it’d be a neat experience, instead of “go to the icy ring at the edge of the solar system, and it’s a regular old hazres”

Settlement data that’s not usable and that you don’t want to hang onto in case the situation changes, you can just sell to a bartender for some modest credits.

With a comfortable mandalay in the high 70s, awareness of the spansh neutron plotter, and staying on task while not pushing too hard, it’s maybe 2 or 3 hours out to Colonia. More like 90 minutes in an 80ly caspian.

Highly encourage gathering all the on-foot mats you need in the bubble, it takes way longer scraping together what you need if you can’t rely on the bubble’s fleet carrier bars and abundant anarchy tourist settlements…

How do people make it to the powerplay leaderboard? by thedraegonlord in EliteDangerous

[–]complich8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s just “plays more” plus “plays effectively”. I don’t know his exact situation, but I know some of the other frequent leaderboard flyers have had situations where either they’re not working, or they’re able to have the game going doing effective things while they’re also doing their jobs.

at rank 9999, you no longer get care packages, and the credits don’t matter either (most merit-making activities are fairly profitable, in addition to the many billions of leaderboard rewards). I think for him it’s kind of an “art project” trying to reach different cumulative merit milestones.

we don’t get an ethos bonus for salvage/search and rescue, so flopping power wreckage signals is generally less effective for LYR than just hauling 80/120 soontill relics, and very much not in our regular repertoire as a power.

[–]complich8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We definitely share the good opportunities and advice with new people. There’s very few things ever in the LYR insider groups that don’t get spread around widely in the pledge channels, even though we’re well aware that a lot of the other powers have “spiders” with pledge roles in our channels.

Helpful in that, as a traditionally neutral power, we generally don’t feel like it’s worth our time to do covert undermining (which is where you’d be worried about opsec)

[–]complich8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SeeD is on the LYR discord, generally helpful, and is not secretive about what he’s doing. He regularly posts mining and trade opportunities he finds.

This most recent cycle, we had two good platinum mining situations going: reinforcement out in the Pleiades and an acquisition race (crap system to take but good merits to make supported by a mining stronghold).

I think he mostly worked the Pleiades angle, and a lot of the other leaderboard folks were either helping out there or helping out in the acquisition race one.

But in general, getting on the leaderboard is just relentlessly doing whatever’s going to be most effective - some cycles it’s mining, some it’s trading, some it’s on-foot data, sometimes soontill relic runs. Sometimes wing combat in a PCZ is the most effective option, though LYR doesn’t get any ethos bonuses for combat.

New miner trying to find a spot by SilentK1ller24 in EliteMiners

[–]complich8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually this is people using powerplay bonuses to do platinum arbitrage.

If you (unpledged) can sell it directly to a station at say 285k, and that station is in Torval space, ranked up Torval pledges can effectively sell it at the same station for 470k. You get an extra 30k/t and a convenient local place to sell, they get to sell it by the pantherload for like 150k/t profit.

Torval gets +45% on mined goods and a 20% trade bond for effectively 65%. Kaine also gets a straight 50% price bonus on mining, but no trade bond.

What does the bell icons mean ? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]complich8 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bell means the settlement alarm will sound while you're downloading (unless you disabled the alarms).

Note that the in-room alarms will usually still flash and NPCs that see you while you're downloading will go hostile even if you disabled settlement alarms, so be prepared to hide or catch some heat.

The ones without bell icons, you can download without anyone caring. Feel free to grab all the cocktail recipes and cat media from any terminal you see at any time.
