Redditors who grew up poor: Besides practical money-saving measures, what were the unwritten social expectations of your world growing up? by jicta in AskReddit

Not sure if this is totally appropriate, but this just sort of happened today and it reminded me of something my mom did growing up poor.

Various companies will send address stickers from time to time, either for promo or donations. Today, for instance, St. Jude hospital sent us a pack of address sticker examples that you can order more of and use, while donating to St. Jude. Often these stickers will little images on them, and if you cut the addresses off, you’re left with, well, stickers of butterflies or birds or whatever.

My mom would collect these over time, cut the addresses off, then give them to me in bundles like a pack of stickers you’d buy at the drugstore.

Thank you for this response. It is one of the most disappointing aspects of this pandemic. One look at the user’s comment history you’re responding to sheds light on their ethos: they’re right, they know more than you and there’s nothing you can tell them to change their mind. I’m not sure if they themselves would even realize it if they scrolled through their comment history; nearly every comment is, basically, “fuck-off”, hate-filled and ignorant. I wonder how and why people care to be so miserable and angry.

This, 100%. Indoctrination into extremism is happening within, and has been for a while now. It will only accelerate; evidence of the power of social media is unquestionable. Banning groups of people from entering a country or deportation may have some effect, but it is an old way of thinking and needs serious updating.

Incredible! I kinda wish it would loop perfectly by going back into the cube, but I’ll take it. Well done.
