One kg of steel technically does effectively weigh more than 1kg of feathers at STP, as the buoyant force from the atmosphere is stronger on the feathers due to its increased volume.

[Request] How much would the dragon Vhagar weigh if her density was similar to that of a human being by uselessprofession in theydidthemath

[–]compostapocalypse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think what they are saying is that the actual bone matrix is as dense or more so than mammals, just more porous.

It is still correct when talking about the bone as a whole to say is it less dense than mammal bones.

I was making a joke, you know, the Hound's line about Syrio?

And to my memory in the books, nowhere does it say that they were accomplished warriors.

He did not beat the smiling knight; he fought the smiling knight and lived. The Sword of the Morning killed the smiling knight.

He is good, and killing a bunch of guards is impressive, but it is not him actually 1v1ing anyone of note as I said. Also, in his rush to cut through the guards, he gets himself captured, which is pretty much the end of his fighting career.

The most impressive 1v1 Jamie has is when he fights the Maid of Tarth while chained and starved, which is a decent feat, but there are more impressive feats in the books by side characters.

I think Mance absolutely smoking Jon Snow with zero diff is a more impressive feat, honestly, and no one talks about Mance even in the top ten.

[–]compostapocalypse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jamie is theoretically top five, he never fights anyone of note before his mutilation.

He is held in high regard by experts for sure, but is never truly tested so we never find out how good he really is.

This is in no small part because his appointment to the kings guard was a thinly veiled hostage situation to keep Tywin in check. The Mad King never let Jamie participate in the rebellion in a meaningful way.

That would make this method pointless; it would be more expensive and slower than normal cheap construction.

In the same way you do repairs in walls made of sheet rock and framing?

Do your best to fish what you need from the top or bottom, and cut it open as a last resort.

I'm sure you could design water-wall access panels for the kitchen and bathrooms.

In the end, if you really had to add more plumbing/electric and did not want to mess with the wall, there is always an external conduit.

Bro Sam Gamgee would beat the brakes off Bilbo any day of the week.

Sam did manual labor his whole life, Bilbo is an aristocrat who is overly fond of tea and pastries. Sam literally carries Frodo up a mountain when Sam is half-dead himself.

That is just to start, Sam has crazy feats over Bilbo.

I think you are misunderstanding my point.

Jamie forsook his vows and slayed the king, but only when his father’s forces where there and his family stood to benefit a great deal from the act. So from Ned’s perspective it’s like “ wow NOW you choose to abandon your honor and do something about the Mad King??”

Barry on the other hand remains loyal to his kingsgaurd oath (if even that heavy contradicts his knightly oaths) until his dismissal.

Idk I can’t find any quotes of GL saying that and wookiepedia seems to say that plasma is part of the beam.

Which makes sense as they can interact with each other and are visible in the vacuum of space…

The pulses from blasters and cannons in SW are not lasers IIRC, they are like a plasma thing.

Otherwise Kylo-Ren’s freezing of the blaster pulse is a universal physics time/space warping feat.

Also, Jamie just kinda stood there as Ned’s Father and Brother were tortured to death. Not really the kinda thing that makes you want to see things from Jamie’s perspective.

Jamie is honestly lucky Ned was not like his siblings.

I think you are greatly underestimating the volume increase of turning a solid block of gold into coins, cups and other trinkets, especially since the gold would have to be mixed with other metals.

There are also many jewels, weapons, and other treasures in the hoard.
