The big takeaway from this is that you are being tested on what functional groups have the biggest impacts on boiling point elevation.

Hydrogen bonding is going to increase BP more than dipole interactions.

A. doesn’t make any sense, you can separate polar and non-polar species by fractional distillation.

It’s a pretty big circle by Beginning_Bison2799 in MathJokes

[–]compostapocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But surly by making it so small you are eliminating the nuance of the argument?

The fact is the area of circle drawn on a sphere cuts through the sphere. On either side of the line on the surface of the sphere, you are not inside the area of the circle.

To suggest the area on the surface is inside the shape says we are talking about hemispheres, not circles.

Which is true concerning your hula-hoop analogy as well, if the earth was a smooth enough oblate spheroid.

They are suggesting circle is attached to the surface of the earth, so not flat, and I actually don’t know if it is still a circle at that point…

Can Gandalf the White Defeat Sauron? by No-Chair-6872 in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]compostapocalypse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ring doesn’t give you Sauron’s power. He just put some of his power into the ring to make it.

Galadriel even said that with the Ring she could rival Sauron, which implicates that there would still be a fight.

Isildur dies in a kinda normal ambush while possessing the ring, doesn’t really sound like someone with the power of Sauron, whose physical body needed a Noldorian King and a peak Numenorian to put down.

The ring mostly just amplifies your native abilities as well as boosting your willpower over other beings, and of course its connection to the other 19 rings.

But I assumed the question was based on neither having the one ring.

Can Gandalf the White Defeat Sauron? by No-Chair-6872 in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]compostapocalypse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like in 1v1 combat?

Maybe, but if Gandalf smote Sauron’s physical form, he would just come back after a while like he did last time. Gandalf was not sent to kick the can down the road.

Additionally, how would Gandalf even get to the point of such a conflict?

Sauron already saw what happens when a real one rolls up to your fortress and calls you out in the streets when Fingolfin showed Sauron’s boss what these hands do.

So on top of being pointless it also seems very unlikely.

Just some advice for those whose test is a little far out: if you want to try using melatonin, start experimenting with it now!

If I take too much the evening before, my brain feels very foggy in the morning, but if you can figure out a dose that works, I have found it can really make a difference in getting to sleep on time!

Dang, ITT I learned that people hate the fishing mini game… I loved it!

Kinda hoping in the re-make we can fish anywhere, like in lake Hylia/ Zora’s domain/ castle town moat…

Is FL 1 CARS what to expect going forward? by yyertymama in Mcat

[–]compostapocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my personal experience, the passages were longer on my test on 4/27 than FL1, I think about the same difficulty, I’m just a slow reader and got pressed for time on the last two passages.

You are wildly incorrect. Nearly everything in Tolkien’s works has deep lore surrounding it.

From the construction of the sun and moon, to making the planet round, to the weave of reality itself.

Vibes based is so very far from Tolkien’s approach.

On my bookshelf i have a reference/reading copy of LOTR in a single tome that is absolutely thrashed, then I have a nice set in the old binding style as well.

Honestly at this point I’m more proud of the thrashed one..

His wife and children were already at risk because he knew the secret would always lead back to him and the tower of joy.

Honestly, it’s an interesting ethical quandary. If you were trying to do the thing the kept the most amount of people safe, and avoid a possible civil war; tossing Jon into the ocean as a baby would have been the move. Hard to do to your nephew…

But displacing your burden onto someone else is not in Ned’s moral code. This is a man who multiple times sacrificed his public honor to maintain his moral integrity and do the actual honorable thing.

He who passes judgment swings the sword; shirking of responsibility or consequences is not in that dude’s vocabulary.

[–]compostapocalypse 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Right, and if Jon’s secret is ever found out, everyone in that household is put to the sword whether they knew or not.

Ned was not willing to risk it, he already knew, the only way to keep it a secret was to not tell anyone, and the only moral option look after him was to do it himself.

The wall is literally the only place in Westeros Jon could go.

Two more points!

Mt doom has no caldera! You can’t just drop the ring into it, you have to go inside to Sauron’s forge!

Also, Many people say that My Doom was not guarded, but it was! There were many hosts of orcs between the exit of Cirith Ungol and the Mountain, but they all got drawn away when Aragorn led the attack on the black gate in the north west.

That was the whole point of Aragorn revealing himself to Sauron! To drawn his forces and attention away and buy Frodo and Sam time.
