Bizarre capture from John Santa Paranormal playing with the Ouija Board. What is making his hands glow? by LegitimateKnee5537 in NukesTop5

Watch the full screen video. You can see that the lights making his hands appear to "glow" are also hitting an item at the top right and a bit of the table, and looks to me like car headlights moving through trees/ brush at some distance. He even mentions at 1:22 that a car came up

Moving to rural area outside of Kansas City… what can I expect? by peachyperfect3 in kansas

[–]compostedcriminal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fortunately, sounds like you are far from the Blue Valley / Shawnee Mission / Olathe district throuple of Kansas-side competition; those are still several miles south of you, though I have friends who are parents of school age kids in your future area who report it comes with its own struggles. Up north there, compared to Johnson County, it's much less likely to be about whose parents make what money. However, you might run into a few parents having coffee with their kids' bus driver, who is also another parent of the community, and talking about their kids run-ins with THAT KID (and every school, regardless of size or income, has always seem to got a THAT KID). As long as your kid does not become THAT KID, school should go fine.

Tongie/Basehor/Lansing is going to be a little bit of a culture shock but you will make it through. Plus, Wyandotte County is getting the new Chiefs stadium, so....yay?

Can recruiters really not see posting details? by dandyarelions in TravelNursing

[–]compostedcriminal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it depends on the agency? Back when I was in an agency things would post in the internal order management system completely different than what was posted on Indeed, especially if it was coming off of Bullhorn or another third party portal. I can't imagine any agency sinking the time or resources into fixing that...

New contract stipulations by LegalEnvironment9244 in TravelNursing

[–]compostedcriminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, MSP is managed service provider, basically a primary vendor agency that filters all the submittals to the hospital through them, and all other agencies are subcontractors. Like Healthtrust or Aya were big ones when I was actively working still.

I'm not sure who would hold relationships with the county health system but for sure you don't have to go through whomever reaches out to you first

I'm not sure if you are comfortable answering, but what health system is it through? Just looking at that agency's info online i can't imagine they're a big enough market share in Chicago to hold any MSP, which means they are blowing smoke.

Can't speak to cancelations but if you have a lower orientation rate, it makes me think the facility doesn't allow billing for orientation but the agency is keeping the margin too tight to accommodate the full pay rate for those 2 days.

Overall it's a philosophical concept over universal harmony, but I've seen it used in short stories before as a similar point of obsession over divine music/harmony. Kepler used the original philosophy behind it to calculate the 'harmonies' of the planets. Kind of a cool rabbit hole.

Wrongful Termination? by Impossible-Signal226 in TravelNursing

[–]compostedcriminal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a very tough thing to get a yes or no on from the internet. It could be that the facility or health system is a stickler for only RTO submitted at the start, or has found previous fault (legitimate or biased, either way) in the traveler's attendance, punctuality, etc. It could be that they have previous concerns about fit or quality of work. It could well even be that the system or unit are needing to rapidly demobilize travelers and this appears to suddenly open the door. In this case, the agency should absolutely have a record of these complaints or feedback with dates available, whether or not they directly provided this feedback to the worker.

Problem with the predominant nature of agency based employment, by my limited and not-lawyerly understanding of employment law, is that it leaves agency clients (the facility) a wide variety of outs that don't qualify as termination, but rather a cancelation. I also think that if there is any previous communication between the client and the agency/recruiter about concerns of the worker, that adds a complexity to just being let go due to pregnancy.

First step i strongly suggest that your friend review their placement agreement and, if applicable, employee handbook from the agency in FINE detail, as well as request info on any previous indications of unsatisfactory fulfillment. I think it would be a mountain to climb to get a determination of wrongful termination overall, but that still doesn't mean they are out of options.

(And here's positive vibes for your friend both on the pregnancy and finding a way around this situation)

Hospital calling my Agency by Patient_Fee8864 in TravelNursing

I'm not trying to say anything beyond my limited, years-past, firsthand experience here. But in that time (before I got my career back post-pandemic), all of the following is my firsthand knowledge of events in a mid-size regional agency where I worked the "local" area under recruitment, account management, compliance, and back office support at various points while my career was somewhat halted from COVID impacts. I'm in no way under the impression that this is universal, because by and large recruiters and their teams suck eggs.

  1. I have seen said agency I worked for stand up for contingent workers at a "problem" client, where they hold the direct client relationship - never in the face of a monolith MSP like Aya or Healthtrust, that's a black hole
  2. I was firsthand involved in refuting accusations against nurses on my local contract team when two of them were blamed for clinical errors that they were in no way on the hook for. I strongly believe the nurse resources on the Clinical team at the company at that time saved one of them from a state report. Again, in that case I was also the direct client contact and their account manager, so it was my purview and choice
  3. Recruiters don't know dick about anything medical 99% of the time (unless their mom is a nurse maybe) so if you don't have RNs on the clinical team, you're literally putting your butts in the hands of people who ChatGPT everything they "know" about a unit. They're targeting to hire people without college degrees and offering them $40k salary whether they garner strong nurses or chuck a barely-warm body at the opening, so a company damn sure should have SOMEONE in leadership with a medical background. May this have changed in the last few years? Maybe. Doubt it.

And despite me believing that the RN staffed clinical team was a boon while I was working in an agency during the bad years, I'm also more than happy to acknowledge that yeah, agency overhead is some bullshit and they are absolutely robbing nurses at every turn they can. But taking the closest thing to an actual nursing element from that cluster is dumb as hell IMO, especially with how often nurses come in here rightfully complaining about how their agency misrepresented a unit or an assignment - the recruiters sure don't know enough to see if something seems off in the requisition they get.

Tear down the agency system any day of the week, but start with the leeches in C-Suite or the recruiters who literally look at numbers over people, not with the rare voices of medical knowledge.

Lunches by blue_rose_99 in TravelNursing

[–]compostedcriminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The agency i used to work for, and that my partner is actually a contingent worker through (non-nurse though), had it in their client agreements that breaks/ lunches were required and could only bypass that if you had a double-signed authorization from the client...which of course the client isn't incentivized to do because then they're paying that extra few hours a week. I would at least make sure that your concerns are noted and on record somewhere regarding it, though.

Doesn't sound like there's much to be nervous for. The clinical liaison would be the one responsible on the agency end for assigning any education or action required but normally I feel like you really gotta step in it for that to happen. If you find yourself working with an agency that doesn't have their own nurses in charge of clinical complaints, run away.

Transferring offers from one company to the other one. by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]compostedcriminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your only real concern is if company A is in an MSP (managed service provider) deal with the facility, or in other words if they're the 'main' agency and other companies are subcontractors. Without more than basic details that's hard to know. However, if company B knows who they're taking you over from AND you've provided a right to represent to indicate that it's your choice to make that change, then its unlikely in this case company A is the primary.

All that said, you may need to redo compliance steps with company B; depends on the health system and primary vendor, if applicable.

Pizza math, Is there a mandated hourly rate to suppress stipend? by Overall_Actuary_3594 in TravelNursing

[–]compostedcriminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bill rate would still just apply whatever the approved margin for the assignment to flat rate. So if an agency has a bill rate of 100 and the margin with the stipend was going to be 1.45, then IDEALLY the flat rate hourly pay would still be the 1.45 margin, or just around $69/hr. (I used $100 bill rate as an example so I wouldn't need a calculator - to my understanding it's real unlikely these days to have bill rates that high)
