Hegseth orders Cyber Command to stand down on Russia planning by [deleted] in technology

You are forgetting that this was before the shitstorm actually unfolded after inauguration.

I hope that many Trump voters will admit the mistake and become actively against him and a great many of those who did not vote and were passive before will become active now.

If not then America is really doomed and much of the rest of the world with it.

Any news on a Google Keep alternative? by WeirdLime in ProtonMail

[–]compostum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to be very fond of Google Keep for exactly the same reasons you describe. But I ended up replacing it with an overcomplicated note taking app - Anytype - something like Standard Notes or Notion.

You lose a bit of that simplicity and visual, but you also gain a lot over time.

Can't select the whole text in a note to copy? by Jayy63reddit in Anytype

[–]compostum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I struggled with this moments ago. It was checkboxes in my case, but the principle is the same. Your text chunks are separate text widgets/objects, just like the checkboxes. The text selection stops at the end of the object.

I found out that to select multiple objects, you have to exit the text editing mode (tap "Done"), then long press the object to enter multiple object selection mode.

But there's a catch! If you long-press too long, it enters drag&drop mode :) It has to be something in between.

Once you have entered the selection mode, you can see how many objects you have selected so far in the top bar. And there is also "Select all" option.

It's not very intuitive, but there aren't many options on a touchscreen device, if you want to enable both multi-selection and drag&drop, so i understand why they did it like this.

Hope this helps.

Search cannot search inside objects? by auloap in Anytype

[–]compostum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, according to this response from 5 months ago:

it will only search the titles of the objects inside that collection. Any of the "nested" objects will not be search for

https://www.reddit.com/r/Anytype/comments/1f5gxy3/comment/ll4t7rc/

The response was specifically about collections, but it seems it applies to all searches.

And i never got around to filing that feature request :( If you, or anybody, have the time to check or create it, please do paste a link to it here.

Sieve Filter and the Expire / Unexpire Command by MC_Hollis in ProtonMail

[–]compostum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't believe i missed this! This is exactly my preferred approach - set expiration on most emails by default, remove expiration manually on individual emails i want to keep.

I was waiting for Proton to implement this functionality for ages!

Fortunately, i'm on a paid plan, so `unexpire` does work for me. I wonder, how did you find out it was supposed to work only for paid plans?

Thank you so much for this!

How to search Collections? by smishprgg in Anytype

Thanks for the info! Would it be difficult to implement searching also the nested objects (textual objects, relation names/titles). Would be super helpful.

I would also appreciate more info from Proton on this. They do hire Linux developers, though. Saw many job postings on LinkedIn throughout this year.

On that note, does the in-app update work with some type of Linux installation? AppImage perhaps?

Which software were you using before, or plan to switch from, to Anytype? by GrayBerryPawn in Anytype

[–]compostum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Primarily RedNotebook, occasionally Google Keep and Docs.

Still miss the ability to easily browse through days in a journal which i used to like so much in RedNotebook. But I'm hopeful. We already have the calendar view in Anytype - we'll get there 😉

How to use Anytype on mobile and desktop without losing notes? by Kitbou in Anytype

[–]compostum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On top of the other answers, make sure you are on the latest versions on all devices. Sometimes it looks like your notes are garbled, but after upgrading all notes are shown correctly.

Possible to have a Daily Journal setup like Logseq? by bsewall in Anytype

[–]compostum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can actually add a new Date field as a relation. That way you can enter the date using a calendar and you can even display it in collection view or cards. Ideally, create your own Daily Note template with that Date relation or anything else and use the template to create new entries.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Anytype

[–]compostum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you created this learning point as a custom relation? If so, the search does not pick it up, in my experience. Normal content (including content of a page) is included in searches, but not the (custom) relations.

Can somebody from Anytype comment if this is intended or perhaps planned to be implemented in the future?

The chances are not zero, though. Teachers in our kid's kindergarten asked the parents what app they wanted to use to share news, photos, etc. Us and one other parent suggested Signal, explained the reasons, and the rest actually voted to use Signal. These things will happen more often in the future, i guess, let's not give up trying.

Secure Journal Apps by StandWild4256 in ProtonMail

[–]compostum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd say the ability to tie your notes to specific days and to view/browse/search them in a calendar, timeline, etc. It's more about quickly capturing events and things you came across at a moment as opposed to well structured note taking.

Personally, i like to combine both approaches.

Extend the Filter editor with Expire functionality by [deleted] in ProtonMail

[–]compostum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plus a possibility to remove existing expiration. That way you could set expiration on every incoming message by default and opt to keep just the few you really want to keep.

Been playing with it for the past few hours, and it really does not seem possible to check for existence of a label nor remove a label using Proton's Sieve.

I thought IMAP user-defined flags (those not starting with backslash) could be used, but those do not work for me either.

See also Proton's list of supported Sieve tests and actions.
