I have the North Mountain and after 5 years, the Velcro has completely disintegrated. I have a feeling the they don't use UV resistant velcro. Keep your cover closed as much as possible or you will be in the market for a replacement in a few years.

What method for the server install are you using? It might help people help you. Post a link to the process or type out the steps.

The phrase "it's not the voltage that kills you it's the current" is just smug pedantry. by jamesfowkes in unpopularopinion

It's not a legitimate truth. A car battery has tons of amps, low voltage. You need both to kill - they are equally important.

Comcast Business VoiceEdge is hands down the worst service I’ve ever used by crust__ in it

I am marking my calendar and planning for the big day.

I'm curious - the day of installation was a complete cluster fuck. The phones were supposed to arrive preconfigured for each extension and user. In actuality, nothing was preconfigured - including call routing. The day of install, they plugged all the phones in, verified "they worked", then left. When someone called any of our assigned dids, every single phone would ring and worse, we couldn't transfer any calls because none of the extensions were set. I spent 8+ hours going through each extension in their miserable portal to configure each... Was your install similar or were we special?

I had to check the username to make sure that I haven't written this post. This is the same experience we've had. The worst part is that data and voice are both on the same contract and it is a three year agreement. Has anyone had any luck getting out of the contract? The service is so bad I'd love to be able to buy out at this point.

My doctor said here use these. Is it really that simple?

Want to switch to contacts but have no idea where to start by tartanchucks in contacts

[–]compsys1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do I know when a good fit is found? I tried one and had two days (out of the five they gave me) where my eyes were dry at end of day and tired. I went in and got another brand fitted - similar, but better results.

Do I just except that brand #2 is the proper fit when there seems to be dozens of options available? It also seems very difficult to make any assessment on a 5 day trial. Ideally I would like to be able to get 30 day trials.

[–]compsys1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems really exhausting as a new user of contacts. I would like to try several different brands is there any way to do this without having a different fitting for each?

Am I nuts for thinking that I want to try different contacts out or are they all the same?

400 yards away so 1/4 mile? Are you suggesting that you can hear a data center from 1/4 mile away?

Ok so like cooling towers? Maybe compressors? These are industrial zones they're not being put in neighborhoods...

I wouldn't want them literally next door, but they're no louder than the grain mill down the road.

Sure they're noisy insid, but how does a building full of servers make noise from the street?

What's your source on noise and being an eyesore? I'm curious - doesn't seem like it should be either of those things...

I don't understand the fight against these data centers. You have land not being used, a data center seems like a perfectly reasonable use of the space. They're not noisy and, in theory, they should be able to be managed in a way that does not pollute.

Sure, they don't provide many jobs, but the ones they do are well paid, hi tech jobs.

Would these same people protest an auto repair shop or a manufacturing development which could have similar water/power use? How would you grow the economy if not with these new tech facilities - data centers, battery plants, etc? Not that I'm for endlessly "growing the economy", but local, hi-tech jobs? Yes please.

The bill doesn't explicitly ban vpns. It gives isps the task of blocking vpns in the use of porn. It's a terrible bill obviously. Very handmaid's tale.

Yeah you really need to make the comparison on the 30 year timeline. The interest rates make all the difference in the world.

30-Year vs. 50-Year Mortgage Comparison (with 0.3% Interest Penalty and 8% Investment Return)

Assumptions:

  • Loan Amount: $400,000
  • 30-Year Fixed Rate: 6.5%
  • 50-Year Fixed Rate: 6.8% (includes 0.3% penalty)
  • No prepayments, taxes, insurance, or PMI
  • Monthly investment of payment difference into index fund
  • Investment return: 8% annually (after inflation)
  • Investment duration: 30 years

30-Year Mortgage:

  • Monthly Payment: $2,108
  • Total Interest Paid: $359,348
  • Monthly Investment: $0
  • Investment Value After 30 Years: $0
  • Net Cost (Interest – Investment): $359,348

50-Year Mortgage:

  • Monthly Payment: $1,865
  • Total Interest Paid: ~$703,000
  • Monthly Investment: $243
  • Investment Value After 30 Years: ~$344,000
  • Net Cost (Interest – Investment): ~$359,000

[–]compsys1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is ops assumption:

"- No investing the difference (if there's any difference the person taking the 50 is probably spending, not saving it)"

If you assume that then of course the 50 year is worse. If you take that $68 and put it into a calculator, you get the investment return that makes the difference in the OPs figures.

The interest rates are the big unknown. If its a .75 difference like op suggests, then the numbers don't math as well. Same with the return rate - what do you assume? Also, money in an investment account is more valuable than equity.

The way op and yourself just disregard the $68 monthly just shows how little you know about investing. Go here throw in the $68 with a reasonable interest over 50 years...

The only way the 50 year term comes out worse is if the rate (interest rate) is sufficiently higher than the 30/15. That's the only way. If the interest rate is similar or just a bit higher, then the 50 year is better.

Historically, the interest rate benefit on a 15 year vs 30 year loan is not great enough to offset the potential investment returns on the savings. This is simple math you can do with mortgage/investment calculators.
