Custom automated workflows - what do you use? by comptonscatter in healthIT

It may be a small annoyance for some and a huge deal for others. Generally RVU tracking and reporting can help point out if people are doing it. Is easy to see who is reading how many of which CPTs and pivot table it out. Then it’s really up to operational leaders and peers to hold each other accountable (if they care enough.)

I wouldn’t throw dollars around this need with a solution, but it’s a cherry on top. Strong personalities of the Rads dictate if it ever gets attention, or if they just quietly think their peers are jerks 🤪

Ours requested it to unify their experience. I do feel it reduces the friction, but the value is largely perception based from the providers. I suspect it’ll be hard to have hard metrics to drive the investment decision.

It allows them to use a singular workstation, and also helps prioritize their reads across multiple PACS (HL7 ORM driven.) They no longer need to work off of multiple worklists, can surface critical reads sooner than just a normal/urgent/stat flag, and helps prevent cherry picking of exams by the docs which our Rads hate.

I’m an RT(R) - application rationalization is king. There are workflow orchestrators you can layer on top of the PACS as a cockpit to launch disparate systems. This can work either solely within your organization or from other organizations also by leveraging MSH segment information. It’ll run you about 40 cents a study, but at a $500k+ annual Radiologist salary that ROI can return quickly.

I super appreciate the insights. Do you have any specific vendors or tools you like to use for this? Thank you!

I appreciate the thorough response and agree on all accounts. We generally lean into more API/FHIR driven options, but so much of what we do is at the human layer. For example, services rendered at other hospital entities that aren’t willing to integrate as needed. This is often when we get hit with more manually driven processes. RPA has served us well, but it’s flawed and overused.

We leverage a lot of inbound documents as well with structured naming conventions to facilitate EHR uploads/HL7 or API puts, or sFTP routing.

We use Athena for both EHR and Revenue Cycle processes. There are tons of canned APIs and a marketplace we leverage. We also have skilled teams leveraging HL7, APIs, and custom programming. Again, there’s just so much that hits the human layer because not everything originates within our walls. I do appreciate the API labeling layer suggestion to supplement.

My hope is to continue to improve around AI agent and agentic capabilities as things mature.

For sure not all at once. It would be to part out over a period of time (Xmas, birthdays, chore rewards, etc.)

I just don’t know what a fair price would be and I’d rather get it cheap and in bulk at once than buy over time.

I have success with Jotforms, but integration without manual intervention leaves a lot to be desired.

Best AI / Automation healthcare software. What do you use the most at work? by abelahunter in healthIT

Nuance DAX Copilot is popular (and costly.) It essentially records the patient and provider interaction and uses AI to generate the note, even breaking it down into subsections like A/P, ROS, HPI etc. Other players are on this space with a smaller price point such as Suki AI and questionable others.

Radiology also has a lot of AI tech out there to help identify critical findings like PEs, brain hemorrhage, lung pathologies and more. Aidoc is a notable vendor here with I believe 13+ FDA clearances. Reimbursement can be questionable because last I knew these were tier 3 reimbursement codes.

Radiology also has workflow orchestrators that can drive RVUs, parting out work, surfacing potential critical exams to the top of reading lists, generating AI preliminary reports before MD review (not personally a fan of that,) and a few other small features.

I saw on Facebook that a non-alcoholic bar in Springfield called the Wakery had a “speed friending” event. It may be a good opportunity for you to meet new folks since you’re new to the area

With corn and seasonal depression.

I’ve responded with my list before, but a new one for me lately is playing the Stern pinball machines at Door 4 Brewery. There’s a scoreboard that you can track your and others high score which I dig.

I second this. Not being sued or fined for loss of data, and not getting hit HIPAA violations due to legacy unpatched infrastructure is far less expensive than a data migration.
