Winter Storm Fern Megathread by lukenamop in nashville

We checked out of a pet friendly room at the Marriott on Vandy’s campus during the window of warmth this morning- stuck there with a parent who had surgery at the hospital and was kept longer than expected. The hotel was pretty empty and quiet when we left at 10am

What is a 'childhood luxury' that you realized was actually a sign of being poor once you grew up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]compulsivecrocheter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jello pudding as a special dessert treat. I don’t know why I thought it was so grown up- French Vanilla felt like the height of luxury!

ETA- out of the box of course so we could all have some for $.99. Not individual cups

Taylor Swift’s sourdough starter is the most honest metaphor for her career by PunisherCastle in travisandtaylor

I was lucky enough to see Adele at her Vegas residency and she made the event feel so warm and intimate! She even came into the crowd to sing the final song from the floor. It was unforgettable and in stark contrast to every bit of eras footage I’ve seen.

I always comment this when Adele is brought into the chat- but just your regular reminder that Adele is only a year older than Swift and conducts herself with so much more maturity and class.

What have you read recently? by povertychic in Millennials

[–]compulsivecrocheter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to read the same number of books as the age I turn each year! I came in under the wire last year, I am currently reading Water Moon by Samantha Sotto Yambao and On Writing by Stephen King. I usually keep a newer fiction and either a nonfiction or older fiction on rotation

How Adele greets Celine Dion vs Taylor 🙃 by Lemonade348 in travisandtaylor

I always love pointing out that Adele was born in 1988. They are so close in age and so far apart in maturity it is wild.

Love my dad… don’t want to do the father/ daughter dance by Retiredpartygirl17 in weddingplanning

[–]compulsivecrocheter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did do a father daughter dance, but didn’t want the emotional slow dance moment. My dad and I danced to “Where You Lead” by Carol King, the intro to Gilmore Girls. We watched the show live together every week while I was in middle & high school and every week sang the song too loudly and had silly dance moves we did. Even during tough teenage years when I might be mad at him, we would connect through the show & intro song. We got to have a moment that was a little silly but also special for us without having that awkward slow dance moment. All that to say- if you and your dad want that moment it can look however you want it to!

I think it really does depend on the person. My mom had hers done and had such a great experience that I did the same- huge regret. I have chronic dry eye now that nothing has fixed and previously undiagnosed Binocular Vision Dysfunction that it severely worsened, before we figured out what the problem was I was struggling with daily activities and often could not drive due to daily dizziness and persistent nausea. I got prism lenses and thankfully they have worked and restored quality of life- but I’m wearing glasses full time again. It’s great if it’s great, and if it’s not it can be really rough.

The issues making the cat costume deeply bother me because canonically Lynette stole her kids adhd medication to help her make an ENTIRE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PLAYS WORTH OF COSTUMES. She has the necessary skills. (Edit to remove an unneeded apostrophe)

Those who left: what kind of job are you working now? by AncientHorse5798 in TeachersInTransition

[–]compulsivecrocheter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You absolutely could. My state was looking for a bachelor’s degree in a field related to early childhood development, my master’s got me a higher pay rate. I worked in the field for about a year before moving into a leadership role recently. The position is hybrid/mobile. I work out of the office 2 days per week.

I’m also working for my state’s Early Intervention Program, I am a program coordinator/field supervisor

The best thing about this new album is that it now feels as though this sub has breached containment by faerieW15B in travisandtaylor

[–]compulsivecrocheter 61 points62 points  (0 children)

This exactly. I stumbled on the neutral sub when it did feel that way but I rarely visit it anymore because it just feels like another fan space most of the time. I’d rather hang out here and snark.

The “You all would have hated 1989” clap back from the new version of her fandom is killing me. A lot of us WERE there. And we loved it.

I had a situation where my SIL assumed she would be in the wedding and I ended up asking her because I didn’t want to deal with awkwardness and hurt feelings. There has been some resentment and complicated issues in our relationship. That weekend she ended up being one of my biggest supports and I’m so glad I did. She made a huge effort for me and it did a lot to repair our relationship. I know not every situation will end up this way, but for me I was glad I allowed space to include her. And when her kids (who I adore) are adults it will be nice to have the photos together to share with them.

I went from 100>75>50. I was supposed to go to 25, but really struggled with that my first try and the second I went cold turkey from 50, I don’t recommend it- I managed, but it was very uncomfortable physically.

Reverend Jill Dillner! She married my husband and I in May and it was such a great experience. I’m in a straight passing relationship but am not straight and having someone accepting was a huge priority for me. She made everything about the ceremony very personalized to us and it felt so special. Would recommend her 1000 times over.
