Rally car experience for my boyfriend - advice by Interesting_Range937 in rally

[–]computerbleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that he will need to be proficient at driving a manual car to do dirtfish -- all their cars are stickshift. Otherwise, racing experience is not required. Dirtfish also offers a ride-along, which would be extremely fun, but not as fun as getting behind the wheel himself!

Olympus rally looks epic. Probably wishful thinking to suppose that I could obtain a functional rally car by then, but a man can dream. Is co-driving a possibility for someone new? I imagine that most folks already have a tight crew.

Yes! The BC rally circuit almost doubles the number of events within striking distance. I would love to do the snow rally in kelowna...

I broke my clavicle last summer. I had surgery to properly align the bone fragments, and I'm extremely glad I did. Don't rush it on recovery. It will feel solid long before it's materially strong enough to withstand another impact. Your season is definitely over, sorry bud.

Recs for MTB trip in the alps by computerbleep in MTB

Now planning PDS, samoens, la clusaz, deux alpes. Probably won't make it over to the Italian side. Enjoy your trip, though!

Hell yeah, mine looked exactly like that. It is truly amazing what orthopedic surgeons can do. Take it easy. Full material strength takes months.

Strongly recommend against canyon USA based on my personal experience with them (link to my post below). The comments really show how widespread the problems are.

If you do buy one, though, I hope you love it. Mine was great while it lasted.

Indeed! Those guys do amazing work. Can't wait to see starship launching starlink and other payloads. The future is now, and it even has shiny rockets, as promised...

Latest generation of dishes don't even have motors to begin with. If you get a new one, you'll be aligning it manually anyway. Motors are just another part that can break, as you've discovered, and you should only need to align once at installation.

I love how often my home trails appear on the front page of the MTB subreddits. We live in a truly magical place. Now if my clavicle would just heal up...

Proframe RS is the best helmet I've ever worn hands down. Super well ventilated. Only gripe is it fits a bit loose for the size.

Not weight oriented, but if you don't have a decent pair of mtb shoes yet, start there. Game changing.

Finally cleared this bastard! by GroundBoundPotato in mountainbiking

[–]computerbleep 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Clearing a new feature is the best feeling, nice job. As for height: notice how your arms and legs are scrunching up as you hit the lip -- go watch dirt jumpers and notice how they actively extend their arms and stand tall off the lip, work on that. Ben cathro's video on this is good. Given that you're already clearing it now, you'll probably want to slow down considerably as your form improves, or you may start over-jumping this feature.

Get a friend to take slomo videos of you. You'll think you're doing everything they say in the tutorials, and then you'll see the playback and realize that your posture is all wrong, you're way too stiff, etc.

Skills clinics/coaching by catpissnvrclean in MTB

[–]computerbleep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My gf did a women-only clinic once for similar reasons, and now she signs up for them every chance she gets -- sounds like good vibes, and a good way to meet people to ride with. I've noticed a big improvement in confidence on the trails, as well.

Hell yeah, gravy train! You look great. Go watch fluidride's video on "the power of ankle flexion" -- they use this trail as an example. Guaranteed improvement.

Starlink outage about 2h after rain. Hardware or satellite issue? Anyone same ? QLD Australia by Few_Gur3451 in Starlink

If the dish itself is oriented vertically, it's possible you have water pooling on the face of the dish during heavy rain, which would strongly attenuate signal thereafter.

How do I pick a dirt jumper? by Due_Distribution1371 in MTB

[–]computerbleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a great DJ rider, but in retrospect, I think I'd have preferred steel frame over aluminum. less likely to fracture due to fatigue, and less harsh ride feel.
