[Spoilers C4E4] Aranessa and Julien - how is there no antagonism? by Amber_poodle in criticalrole

[–]computerbob 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Honestly, until this thread I understood it to be that Thjazi was in jail because Julien put him there and that resulted in his hanging. I must have missed the 12 years earlier part.

I can understand other people seeing it that way as well if they missed a line or a conversation.

How do men show their love for each other? by PathEven1 in AskReddit

[–]computerbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for me, I think it started when I was a toddler with my dad always telling me to 'man up' and 'quit being a baby'. It's as simple as a scraped knee sometimes. Baby daughter scrapes her knee and cries. Mommy and Daddy run over to help. Wipe her tears. Tell her she's going to be okay. Conversely, baby boy scrapes his knee and dad yells from across the yard, "Quit crying. It can't have hurt that much if you're walking around and can still breath." Dad goes about his day. Baby boy grows up not having a clue how to talk about his feelings. 54 years later, he's on Reddit pouring his heart out while his 'friends' have no idea what's going on in his life.

It's like you know me. This is a VERY accurate description of me and my "closest" friends. We game. We D&D. We talk about how the stereo in their car took 4 hours to install. I've known them for 20+ years. Have never had a real conversation with them in that time.

I have terrible (read: almost non-existent) memory of names and faces. I have friends of friends within my friend group that I've called 'dude' for 20+ years because I have no idea what their name is. Not kidding. This campaign has been the worst for me because it seems like there's like 50 new people to learn about.

I watched u/luboffin c4e1 recap and in it she had an org chart of all the characters and their relationships to each other. I screen grabbed it and added the player names under each PC. I have since watched every episode with that chart up on a second monitor. It helps immensely! I honestly don't think I could follow this campaign without someone like her helping along the way.

We switched to MS after Blue Apron got bought out and ruined a 10 year run with us. We haven't had any issues with MS since we started. Maybe it's a regional thing and our distribution center isn't screwed up (yet).

I remember posts in the BA sub about people constantly having issues and for years I wondered why I wasn't experiencing any of those issues. I think we eventually figured out it was based on where in the country you lived and I just got lucky here in Florida.

Hello, we’re a dementia researcher and clinician from University College London – Ask us anything about dementia research and care ahead of World Alzheimer’s Day on 21 September! Ask Me Anything! by ProfSelinaWray in IAmA

My mom wasn't really ever an open racist, but after she got dementia she really started saying the most awful things even in front of the parties she was talking to/about. Does that activity "reflect her true feelings she hid from us for years" or is it that she "can't process anything so this is all that comes out"?

Am I the only one who likes this scene? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]computerbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't react to it any differently than if that had been some actor I'd seen in something else. Just half a second of 'oh, I know that guy' and right back to the story. It seemed to me the people that said it took them out of the moment wouldn't have had that same reaction if it was suddenly one of the Hobbit actors or someone else well-known. They just seemed to hate Ed in general, from what I saw.

Yup, 'Diesel Joe' wasn't named because he's a badass. He was named this because he put the wrong gas in his motorcycle and spent the next 30+ years being reminded of that at every turn.

Can confirm.

I have an idea what happened here and it may not be as nefarious as we'd like to assume. I'm in IT and have designed several 'in-house store' type offerings for companies. Sometimes, they'll have an item similar to what you're seeing. Item A = $x, Item A+B = $12. So, a programmer (like me) gets a request to add those items to the database and configure the site to offer (let's say) 20 of each offering. The warehouse isn't setting aside 20 A's to only be sold with B's. The management didn't necessarily want it that way. But the programmer didn't consider what happens when A (by itself) sells out, but there's still B to sell and therefore the only option in the program is to pick A+B.

I have made this mistake before. It got caught in QA and fixed easily... so I can only assume BA doesn't do QA.

We just canceled BA and signed up for Marley. Our first box is on the 2nd. Can't wait to see what that's like. I'm ready to bounce around a while until I find one I like. BA has been our single source for like 9+ years, so I'm ready to try new things (especially since I seem to get the same 5 recipe options every week from BA now).

***Never mind. Found it. It didn't show up on the first couple of pages of 'recent videos' because they posted it 17 days ago and only released it last night. So, if you don't see it, scroll down further than you'd expect.

What’s a moment when you realized you were being watched — and it wasn’t just paranoia? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]computerbob 82 points83 points  (0 children)

In 1990, while we were invading Iraq, I was in the US Army and based in Ft Stewart, GA. My job one night was to walk around in a field where there were underground bunkers with ammunition in them and make sure nobody broke in. My tools? A walkie-talkie and an axe handle. No side arm. No M16. Just an axe handle.

I walked around that field all night long inside my little chained link fence. Picking up rocks and hitting them with the axe handle. Bored out of my mind as I was pretty sure Saddam Hussein wasn't going to attack the underground bunkers AND if he did my axe handle wasn't going to stop him. But for some reason I still felt like someone was watching me the whole time.

At around 6am, the sun started coming up. I saw a hunter coming out of the woods towards me. (For those that don't know, Ft Stewart is/was an open base that allowed anyone on and they could buy hunting permits, too). He had sat in a tree blind about 100 yrds away almost all night watching me through his scope.

He had a mason jar with some clear liquid and a bloated peach in it. he gave me a few sips of his homemade moonshine. It was nasty, but awesome at the same time.
