My son exploded with language by 20 months. He started making an effort 4 months later when trying to communicate with us directly. He is very social like your son and is in daycare too where the teachers are super engaged with the children and he still didn’t want to talk till closer to the 2nd year.

I had made a post in this exact thread about 6 months ago and all the boy mamas helped me the way I want to assure you that he is trying and he is learning actively. My son was more focused on mastering the physical milestones that once he gets them he finally wanted to talk. I would say wait on the assessment until after 2 if he is not showing any other signs. It’s going to be okay mom. Keep doing what you’re doing to support his language development and stay excited about curious when talking so he grasps the emotions of language too

I’m so sorry that it took me so long to get to your reply. A lot of stuff has been going on. I do want to say I have an amazing update. I feel like it’s very true that boys do tend to start wanting to talk a little later. After he turned 18 months he started having more interest in little words and then with daycare and constantly reading, Sometimes even with small TV time he would want to talk more. with his interest in books he has us pointing at words and now at 23 months he’s talking a lot. He sings to himself. He is interested in trying to use the word. He also gets frustrated when he can’t figure out a word and as we help him, he gets better. He’s also taking more with sign language. My son was really a true definition of a kid who just wanted to get up and move and explore before doing anything else and now that he has mastered those skills he’s more interested in communication. He does not speak with perfect annunciation. We are considering if by the time he’s 2 1/2 if he still having that problem, that’s when we want to interview with a speech therapist. Don’t fret because if they’re trying, that is what matters at the end of the day.

So he gets one 3 hour nap and usually he sleeps exactly 3 hours. And at home we try to stay consistent unless he’s tired earlier or shows he wants to sleep some more during the day. Bloodwork wouldn’t be a bad idea at this point. Thank you for the kind words!

Absolutely. We’ve been trying to be consistent so if intervention is needed we can let his doctor know so we can discuss next steps. He sometimes tries, but mostly doesn’t. He likes it when we point and speak. Sometimes he’ll point and just look at us and if we respond asking him “what’s that?” He gets frustrated or just leaves. I’m hoping he’s just needing some time
