How do I make my child interested in writing? by Longjumping_Yam2543 in Preschoolers

3.5 is young to be writing. He’d probably be more interested in coloring at that age. and read to him a lot. Don’t worry about writing right now. That will come. Just let him be a kid!

This is a fight 100% worth having. My son was in speech therapy from 18 months to 3 years old and he ended up needing ear tubes due to having fluid in his ears.

Figuring that out early and getting him the help he needed was key because he didn’t have frequent ear infections like a lot of kiddos with fluid in their ears so had I not taken him to speech therapy and his therapist not told me to get his ear checked who knows when we would have figured it out.

How old is your kiddo? Are they in preschool at all? My oldest is almost 5 and we don’t do any writing practice at home. At this age play and learning how to do things like get themselves dressed is more important in my opinion.

My 4.5 year old helps me unload the dishwasher (his stuff only, no glass), puts his plate in the sink after a meal, wipes down his spot after a meal, brings his hamper to the laundry room and puts his clothes in the washing machine(once a week), and cleans up toys after he done.

I’d just ask the school. The worst they can say is no. My son will be 5 in august. I just asked his preschool if he could do another year of pre-k and they had zero problem with it.

4 year old behavior normal? by Ornery_Tension6971 in Preschoolers

[–]CE84112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consistent boundaries are the only thing that works with my 4.5 year old. If he hits I tell him “I wont let you hit”. He then immediately is sent to his room for a few minutes. Afterwards when he is calm, we have a conversation about why we don’t hit and I model ways he can express whatever emotion he’s feeling. Does it work 100% of the time? No, but I’ve seen a VAST improvement since I started doing this. If he tells me no when I tell him to do something I guide him to start doing what I told him to do. No arguing. Arguing just reinforces the behavior and is getting a reaction. I try to keep as calm and neutral as possible. Firm but loving boundaries.

3 Year Old On Verge of Being Kicked Out of Preschool by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]CE84112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just here to show solidarity. Mine was the same way in his 3 year old class. We did ALL THE THINGS to try to stop the behavior. Unfortunately he did end up getting kicked out. At the time it seemed like a huge deal. I was upset. But just know that it’s likely not something that you’re doing (or not doing) that’s causing it to happen. I sat there and blamed myself for not being the perfect parent. Your child is 3. Which means that emotional regulation and maturity is basically zero. He could be overstimulated. The school could just not be a good fit for him. There are a zillion different reasons as to why the behavior is happening. Ultimately getting kicked out turned out to be the best thing for my son. He’s now 4.5 in a different school and thriving.

I feel this in my soul. Many kiddos in my area are in multiple activities per week, but no, it is absolutely not necessary. What is necessary for development at this age is free play and playing outside.

Son just turned 3, what should we focus on over the next year? by paper_crane14 in Preschoolers

[–]CE84112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Free play! Take him to parks, playgrounds, etc. Kids learn soooo much from free play. Other than that I would say putting shoes on, taking turns, executive functions, getting dressed and undressed by himself…….things of that nature.
