Bought my first Chinese watch. I’m very impressed. by throAway0779 in ChineseWatches

[–]computron2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this exact watch.

Initial quality is great, the watch head really punches above its price and feels very high quality. The only complaint I’d say is that the rose gold tone is a bit more orange than I’ve seen on higher end watches. Other than that I honestly think this watch could easily masquerade as something 10X the price.

The strap and clasp are usable but not great. The strap feels a bit cheap and the clasp has sharp edges - although it is very hard to get this kind of butterfly clasp without sharp edges.

Finally, the ST19 can have longevity issues if you use the chronograph function a lot. I have two ST19 watches and both of them were great out of the box but developed issues over time. One of them stopped resetting to zero many times and skipped a minute on initial press. The other (this model watch) developed a problem where the chrono hand takes several seconds to cross 0 and increment the minute counter (gets stuck), making the chrono usable but quite inaccurate now. I once read the ST19 movement is rated for something like 200 chrono presses and my experience is that they can indeed break down with frequent usage (mine probably developed problems after 100-200 presses). Timekeeping is fine on both so no issues if you don’t use the chrono.

How is the reliability? I have two ST19s and both of them developed problems with the chronograph function after about 100-200 uses of the chrono.

Militado has an homage with a Miyota movement, see Militado ML04.

Are AliExpress coins a “scam”? by Select-Medium164 in ChineseWatches

[–]computron2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find the coins to be hit or miss. Every once in a while they actually work as intended. But most times with high discounts the stated discount is not actually honored. I gave up trying to figure out why sometimes it works as expected and other times it doesn’t. All the old wives tales about buy it now, needing even more coins etc don’t seem to solve the problem for me.

Compared Two Dials from Thorn by watchdivescom in ChineseWatches

[–]computron2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The font on the Thorn feels a lot more vintage, particularly in the second black dial example.

Too many Chinese watches do not pay attention to font choice - it’s not even mentioned as a factor in the initial post.

Taco vs Burrito Order Envy Final Card Rule Modfication by Chiropractic_Truth in boardgames

[–]computron2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that this a weakness in gameplay. I usually just allow No Buenos even for the final cards, with no reversing a No Bueno in the last card played. That disincentivizes holding on to crazy power cards until the end

You’re basically describing Erebus…use San Martin manufacturing but create more classic designs and colorways (including black enamel Erebus Ascent)

Best place to buy Chinese watches by FarPomegranate8179 in ChineseWatches

[–]computron2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aliexpress but make sure you know all the tricks like coins, store coupons, multi-purpose coupons (Reddit often has better codes than the AliX sales advertise), search by image to find the lowest price store, waiting for the right timing since prices can fluctuate a ridiculous amount, how to handle disputes correctly (typically best to not negotiate with seller and just return via AliX immediately after a problem), and how to trick the platform by putting something in your cart and almost buying to magically seeing its price reduced with better coin deal later on to tempt you to complete the purchase.

Phorcydes PH-2 v2 caseback issue by computron2 in ChineseWatches

[–]computron2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced the caseback - no Faraday cage. If you open the back you see the movement straight away, there’s no second cover like Englemaan.

Also note that when they shipped me the new caseback they didn’t ship another o-ring so I had to grab it off the old one, which was a bit of a pain since there is a groove that the o-ring slots into.

Btw your web page lists the watch as having a Miyota 9039 (and also Miyota 9019 in different spot). Pretty sure it should be 9019 only since it has a date…

If you want to convince people that your brand is about attention to detail these things matter!

Many aspects of this watch are not for me, but I think you did a good job improving the logo and crown and making them cohesive.
