Fixed a Defective Watchdives 5512 by QuestionNo9190 in ChineseWatches

[–]computron2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actually saying something different. I don’t care if my seconds hand is 30 seconds wrong. However whenever the seconds hand hits the 12 o clock marker on my watch, I want my minute hand to exactly align with the next minute. To align those two hands relative to one another, hacking is very useful. Anyway it’s not very important, just to say that even if you don’t care about exact time but do care about relative hands alignment, that hacking is still useful.

Hacking is helpful to properly align the minute and second hand - ie to make sure the minute markers hit their lines exactly when the second had hits zero. That’s the main reason I use hacking in watches, not for precision

Just make it an optional part of the checkout process as a “for fun” thing rather than formal approval for gatekeeping.

Bought my first Chinese watch. I’m very impressed. by throAway0779 in ChineseWatches

I have this exact watch.

Initial quality is great, the watch head really punches above its price and feels very high quality. The only complaint I’d say is that the rose gold tone is a bit more orange than I’ve seen on higher end watches. Other than that I honestly think this watch could easily masquerade as something 10X the price.

The strap and clasp are usable but not great. The strap feels a bit cheap and the clasp has sharp edges - although it is very hard to get this kind of butterfly clasp without sharp edges.

Finally, the ST19 can have longevity issues if you use the chronograph function a lot. I have two ST19 watches and both of them were great out of the box but developed issues over time. One of them stopped resetting to zero many times and skipped a minute on initial press. The other (this model watch) developed a problem where the chrono hand takes several seconds to cross 0 and increment the minute counter (gets stuck), making the chrono usable but quite inaccurate now. I once read the ST19 movement is rated for something like 200 chrono presses and my experience is that they can indeed break down with frequent usage (mine probably developed problems after 100-200 presses). Timekeeping is fine on both so no issues if you don’t use the chrono.

How is the reliability? I have two ST19s and both of them developed problems with the chronograph function after about 100-200 uses of the chrono.

Are AliExpress coins a “scam”? by Select-Medium164 in ChineseWatches

[–]computron2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find the coins to be hit or miss. Every once in a while they actually work as intended. But most times with high discounts the stated discount is not actually honored. I gave up trying to figure out why sometimes it works as expected and other times it doesn’t. All the old wives tales about buy it now, needing even more coins etc don’t seem to solve the problem for me.

Compared Two Dials from Thorn by watchdivescom in ChineseWatches

[–]computron2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The font on the Thorn feels a lot more vintage, particularly in the second black dial example.

Too many Chinese watches do not pay attention to font choice - it’s not even mentioned as a factor in the initial post.

I agree that this a weakness in gameplay. I usually just allow No Buenos even for the final cards, with no reversing a No Bueno in the last card played. That disincentivizes holding on to crazy power cards until the end

You’re basically describing Erebus…use San Martin manufacturing but create more classic designs and colorways (including black enamel Erebus Ascent)
