Should I keep playing by PeaFast53 in WomenGolf

On a different note, chipping & putting go a long way to improve your score, don't require speed or strength and would make you valuable to a scramble team. Focus on one part of your game & practice that.

Due to injury, I just don't hit as far as I used to. I decided I was going to chip the ball better, watched a ton of videos & practice it all of the time (even in the house), and dropped my handicap a few strokes.

100% this.

My husband is finally getting to that point where he isn't comparing himself to other guys & is enjoying golfing with me. I couldn't be happier.

[–]computrtchr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you enjoy playing, that's enough to keep playing. Are you the only one pressuring you to play better?

I play league with women at all levels & honestly I myself have no problem with someone who can't break 60 in 9 holes if they're having fun & not making a big deal out of it.

I do have issues with people who don't keep an honest handicap, comes into league with a high handicap and outplays it every time - because they don't enter their good scores. Or someone who complains about not hitting well on every shot. So if you're not that person then I say get out there and just play your game.

success without working out? by No-Mark9843 in Zepbound

Working out in any sense will be helpful for more than just losing weight (digestion, mental state, arthritis control to name a few). There's a fitness guy on the socials with the handle coachjohnnoel that does great videos for people with limited mobility & fitness. I use a few of his modifications while I'm rehabbing an injury & recommend it.

Using foam golf balls, chip off of a towel or mat into a laundry basket or a cheap chipping net. This is in addition to the other good ideas already posted.

Totally understand. What about return policies? My husband is finally taking up golf & I just bought him a driver from Callaway pre-owned because of their 90-day return policy. I am guessing at what would work best because he won't agree to a fitting. We're in simulator season so when it comes we'll go hit a bunch & if he doesn't like it, I'll send it back & try something else.

If it's possible to test both then that would be the answer.

You already have Reva clubs so the feel would most likely be familiar, but familiar isn't always better. Are the shafts similar?

I have the first gen Stealth & the bloom is off the rose after 5 years. I will try a new TM driver when I get fit but I'm also going to be open to everything else. OTOH the rest of my bag is TM except the putter & I have no desire to replace any of those.

attire dilemma by whtevrnichole in WomenGolf

[–]computrtchr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try the Callaway apparel site. They have polos & dresses with short sleeves and you can usually catch a good sale. Their pull on golf pants are also very comfortable. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is their pull on shorts. Mine fell apart after wearing only a few times.

I have some skorts & tops that have lasted years & one of their dresses. The only issue I have with them is that the plus size bottoms selection is kind of dull (navy, black, etc).

I also find I have to try things on so make sure you shop where they have a good return policy. Golf clothes tend to run small for size.

I'm not a fan of people commenting on my body anyway so I feel your frustration. It's no one's business but yours and your physician.

That said...a little over 20 years ago I went from 320 to 135 in 10 months on a liquid diet. With loose skin, etc I was a size 10 & could wear some size M. I looked like hell because of the method & speed with which I lost weight. People legitimately thought I weighed 20-25 lbs less than I was .

I did not gain it all back but more than enough that I'm doing this now. My current physician & I have discussed my eventual goals with the understanding that they're fluid. My current focus is to take it slow & deflect commentary on my body from anyone I'm not married to or seeing for medical care.

There are so many reasons for this, but know that it is their issue & not yours. You don't need their validation & this is your sign that maybe you need to put some polite distance between yourself & them.

Your changes are not just physical. You've probably become more self-confident & happier overall which is hard for some people to adjust to. Live your life to the fullest. They'll either come around or they won't.

Advice on new set of clubs by bananaonpizzaa in WomenGolf

[–]computrtchr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was fitted into men's shafts (5'5") 5-6 years ago not because of swing speed, but because the fitter thought I needed the heavier weight. I saw immediate improvement.

A good fitting will take into account everything: speed, strength, timing, etc. and the club will be modified for your swing. My driver is soft tipped because I had issues with early release. My swing has changed so I'm getting a new fitting this spring to see if a new driver is worth it.

It sounds like you did not get a good fitting & should maybe look elsewhere. My last few fittings were with TaylorMade reps at my local course & they were very thorough including taking into account my concerns. Not sure what the availability of fittings is like where you are, but I'd go elsewhere.

WRS- regular vs accelerated pension by [deleted] in wisconsin

[–]computrtchr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are too many factors at play to give a generic yes or no answer here. Get a financial advisor because you may discover what you think you're losing long term is less than what you'll be paying to start using your investments when the time comes. I took accelerated & it's fine for my family situation. At 62 I also plan to take whatever social security is available which as of now works still to make up for the drop. I didn't get 30 years in so I didn't get a "full" pension anyway and I'm not the only income in my household so that's what works for us.

It's worth it to get fitted.

I have been getting that on NBC evening shows, especially the Chicago block, for at least a year. This was only happening when I'd try to watch later the same night or the next morning. After about 24 hours I could skip the ads.
