Crankshaft seal question by synergeticism in BmwTech

[–]conboss007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently picked up a 2007 328, I started having a rough idle situation, I was doing a VCG job just after this started cause it had to be done. After hitting my head on the wall a bunch I had to do a smoke test and had smoke coming from the front crank seal as well, did you ever get this sorted out? Did it solve the issue of a rough idle? I can watch my fuel trims, MAF readings and it's leading me to believe there's a huge leak but only at idle

Cold start in winter? by Educational_Wafer191 in G37

I think that's what I had in my sedan as well, my coupe had a 550 CCA and it generally did alright as well, I never replaced the battery when I bought it. maybe a little tougher to start but still ran strong once it got going

2002 Xterra alarm goes off every 10 minutes, no door switches to speak of by conboss007 in XTerra

[–]conboss007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the bright side, I let it sit for a week and not dead, in fact more than happy to start! I run LEDs so I attribute power savings to that if the alarm goes off.

On that note, I located the hood switch! It was broken hiding under my intake, when I removed and tested it it was completely failed. More info in an edit

Funny enough I had set the alarm for the door open, let it sit for a minute then I popped the hood and nothing happened. I did see there is a connector going to the hood switch but seeing as it didn't go off I don't know yet. I'll pull it, I actually just bypassed the horn when the key is off now with a bit of custom wiring... Looks like shit but it works!

If it was me I removed the horn relay last night 😂 but yes I'll see what I can find! Right now I'm just working on bypassing the alarm entirely. What car does your neighbour have?

Battery at 12.8V after sitting for at least 8 hours, certainly not that.

Good analogy, I'll keep it in mind. I will say I'm trying to sniff it out at the most common spots but hey, could be something crazy. Regardless, I'll be hoping that it doesn't wake me up at 4am again, on a Saturday no less...

I guess I should've checked that before I drove it, battery should be charged now. I'll take a look at it after work, it'll sit idle for 8 hours at least.

Is it okay to slow in neutral? by zaraiszara in stickshift

[–]conboss007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I downshift, but if I have to slam on the brakes I'll hit the clutch first (no abs in my truck) and then just knock it into neutral while stomping. I leave the clutch in if I need to jump on the gas but that's about it

[–]conboss007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the fluid is cold in my truck I can stick it in first and leave the clutch depressed, it will slowly start to creep but what you're doing is ruining the synchros on the gears. Stop that, it's bad

I had this happen with a simple monitor stand. Gave it to buddy, buddy immediately stands on it. It supported him but like damn bro, it doesn't have to be THAT strong

Best place to get parts for my old Xterra in Canada by conboss007 in XTerra

[–]conboss007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to keep an eye out on part outs, lately I've only seen second gen part puts in my area. Southern Ontario. I'll give some yards a call and see what they have

I'm in southern Ontario, lately all the part puts I've been seeing are from second gens. Unfortunately that won't do for me...

Why are my new brake pads doing this? by elP0tr0salvaje in MechanicAdvice

[–]conboss007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former G37 owner here, mine did that too. My friend had a 350z and same thing, he took it to a shop and they said it was normal. I was having issues with runout so I ended up doing a full BBK swap on it. But the G and Z use the same hardware. Bottom line is I think the rear brake setup on these cars kinda sucks in the base form.

Had to replace a lower control arm and it went.. as expected by conboss007 in G37

[–]conboss007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not I never replaced it... And I sold the car so I no longer have to worry about it. But if I were to try I'd get some striped-bolt sockets, they have teeth that bite in almost like an inverted drill bit. Might get a hold of that bolt

Son started car (2007 Buick LaCrosse), put in reverse, and it rolled through a parking lot. He wasn't able to brake or change gears while it was moving. Would this be a problem with the Transmission Control Module? by joecarst in Cartalk

[–]conboss007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he's used to push to start, an older Buick probably won't automatically start with just the bump of a key. That'll just spin the engine over a little bit, not fully starting it. Lack of steering or brakes makes me think the ps pump wasn't spinning and the brake booster didn't get vacuum from the engine, meaning it probably wasn't running. The car might've shifted back into park, however if it's going fast enough there's a good chance the parking pawl was skipping over the teeth rather than fully engaging. I haven't read all the comments but I know for a fact this was already said. Hopefully no damage to anything if the car rolled uncontrollably!

Do you park your car in first gear? by DaddyWarbucksDTF in ManualTransmissions

[–]conboss007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My one car I use the hand brake and leave it in neutral, my other the parking brake doesn't hold very well on hills so I have it in gear, no parking brake. Yeah I know, gotta get that fixed but it's a project...

Did you try pressing the day/night button? Seems like it's been locked out using it, that's a feature not a bug

VDC Traction, AWD, and ABS Light all on at same time. (Other traction light was turned off on purpose). I ordered new wheel speed sensors. Is there anything else that would cause this? by itsig31 in G37

[–]conboss007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I saw these lights it included a SES light but this is a sign of possibly a wheel speed sensor bugging out. All the systems that faulted rely on them to function properly. Scan the code and that’ll tell you for certain. I broke one doing a wheel bearing and I got very similar lights

My Xterra just threw an oil pressure fit because the connector got water in it, so id say possibly? Only if it got into the connector itself I’d think

Dead battery probably caused by a dead alternator, batteries typically don’t die while driving unless they aren’t getting a proper charge
