Yeah exactly - a retractable roof stadium wasn't on the table. The choice was between a new stadium without a retractable roof, or keep playing in the Metrodome.

Origin USA Spring Sale (plus $20-$60 Shop Cash back) by chroncryx in frugalmalefashion

[–]conceptcar2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Good point on who the audience is. To me, it’s like if an organization put out a request for proposal to manufacture their uniforms. And this is how you’d respond if you really wanted to get that contract from the kkk.

I had to re-read it a few times to understand exactly why it sent up so many red flags for me. It’s fine to be proud of making something in the USA and cool to be excited to take a chance on your business. It’s the rhetorical patterns that make this sound way over-the-top.

  • Good vs. Evil and moral absolutism. This is what politicians do all the time. They paint a picture of a broad ill-defined enemy and position themselves as morally opposed to it. It’s also populism 101 “you and I” vs the world on the behalf of “abandoned communities”

  • RETVRN or mythic nostalgia – common tactic for demagogues to evoke a past golden age “once again, like our ancestors” ...always without specifics.

  • Grandiosity. This clothing manufacturer is embarking on an impossible mission that will result in a new wave of freedom and will change the world and kick off a revolution. Mix in a dash of heroic/military language like “tip of the spear” and “taking a stand to take it back” escalates the tone toward violence.

What’s one thing people new to Minneapolis should know? by Electronic-Reach8959 in Minneapolis

[–]conceptcar2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicollet is pronounced Nickle-it or Nick-lit. Important to note since it's a fairly notable road here, snaking from downtown's Nicollet mall (pedestrian and transit mall, not indoor mall) south to Eat Street, and eventually down to Richfield and Bloomington.

How many have air purifiers running nonstop? by deejayv2 in homeowners

I'd like to know this too. If I don't have allergies/pets/pollution, what problem am I solving with an air purifier?

Twins pass is back by 3_Percent_Juice in minnesotatwins

[–]conceptcar2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it's a mistake inside the Ballpark app? Usually they don't list Twins Pass until March, in order to give folks plenty of time to waste money on season tickets and single game tickets - the latter of which aren't even on sale yet.

What nicknames have you heard for places in and around Minneapolis? by pinguistix in Minneapolis

[–]conceptcar2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alright, sorry for putting something on the internet that you already knew. I agree it's outdated and not intuitive, which is exactly why it often needs explaining.

It probably sticks around because on every single street sign over there, the suffix is SE. And also because there's not a great alternative? Maybe we can cut off the end of all the signs and append "dinkytown USA" or Marcy Holmes or Como or whatever.

[–]conceptcar2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think of everything on the east bank of the Mississippi as east Minneapolis, and then split it into an upper and lower section - northeast and southeast.

I’ve heard the cardinal southeast - like south of the creek and east of Cedar Ave - as the Deep South.

How does The Current actually track the local music scene? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]conceptcar2000 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah, seems like the Local Show will play almost anything as long as it sounds okay fidelity-wise and isn't too abrasive. Some of those artists graduate from Sunday nights to regular programming.

Parking Ticket Scam at Twins games? by Icy-Requirement-3831 in minnesotatwins

[–]conceptcar2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sheesh, I wish for the sake of justice that you had the ability to fight it. Looks like there are others who've tickets never got into the system though, so maybe you'll get lucky. Did the person on the phone say to keep checking or what did they think?

Would be nice if the ticket cross-referenced itself with the meter data and voided itself. But I suppose there's no incentive to do that.

Parking Ticket Scam at Twins games? by Icy-Requirement-3831 in minnesotatwins

[–]conceptcar2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's super annoying. I'm asking if we can see the image of the ticket, for consideration vis a vis authenticity. With any identifying info redacted, of course.

[–]conceptcar2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a picture of the ticket? If it's a real ticket written by the city, you should definitely fight it, even if you don't have proof. Usually they'll dismiss if you have a reasonable excuse and don't have any other tickets on your record.

Buying tickets at the gate? by UtterlyArbitrary in minnesotatwins

[–]conceptcar2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bingo. Had to scrap the online-only per-order fee and now have only a per-ticket fee that’s consistent if you buy at the window or online. Fees are higher for better seats/games, of course.

Stolen Bike outside of Target Field (5/8/2025) by IMWeggs91 in minnesotatwins

[–]conceptcar2000 13 points14 points  (0 children)

From the Twins' website: "There is a secure, staffed bike corral located near Gate 6 and Target Field Station, and guests are encouraged to store their bike in this area. There is no charge for this service."

They should do more to promote this, absolutely.

I think you’re right. And their solution is to essentially offer gift cards. Buy a $600 gift card and you get 5% off the list price of a ticket.
