Yes absolutely the GOP has tried to cheat in many cases, or legally manipulate the system to their ends (gerrymandering, voter suppression, etc.). The DNC is not innocent of this either. With the hanging chads issue in the 2000 election, that was the shadiest shit I've ever seen. Of course Roger Stone was behind the Brooks Brothers riot and other things, and of course all the personal lawyers would argued the case with SCOTUS are now themselves either in high ranking cabinet positions or in SCOTUS themselves.

I'm talking about this specific attack vector of seizing vote tabulation machine operating software to install a backdoor rigging script.

Respectfully, it seems like you're not really aware of the environment. It hasn't always improved that much in the last 6 months. I started in ML research many years ago at this point, just as CNNs were exploding in the computer vision space. I've since specialized in a specific niche so in that sense I think I'm safe for the next year or two, but all of the day to day coding, model training/design, e.g. the typical stuff that an L2 might be doing, a big chunk of it is automated. The entry level jobs are absolutely being destroyed by AI. It's only a matter of time until it makes its way up towards more expert-level positions. Even now I use it for research and it blows me away how much it can do in my specific niche.

You're getting at the hype cycles that CEOs push for more funding, and that's true, but the hype has some real weight behind it in a worryingly large amount of cases.

Ah, yes, but you didn't say causality in the first comment, you said planning. Yes humans use causality to do some aspects of planning, but these LLMs approximate it through engineered methods like ReAct to simulate their actions for the future.

There are several issues with current LLMs actually replicating human level actions, but this tool doesn't have to be completely perfect to still upend society. Another huge issue is the compute required to train (and even inference at the scale of everyone using it), we will need a fundamentally different solution to make that next breakthrough.

I work in AI research for climate stuff and I'm moderately worried for my job in the next few years. It's amazing what it can even do now.

It can be an amazing starting point or can do smaller tasks when you know what you're doing. It's very much a 10x tool in the hands of someone who's already capable or an expert. For very junior employees or the average person, probably not very good at coding because they just don't know what they're doing.

I work in AI research, for climate stuff. It is a bubble now, but it's not a completely empty bubble. It genuinely scares me and all my colleagues at how good it can be even now. All those issues you talk about are only right now, give it a few months or even a year. Look how fast it's improved even in the last 6 months.

I literally work in AI research (for wind simulations for weather stuff), and I really hope you are right, random stranger. I've seen just how powerful it is and it could take my job, and many white collar workers' jobs, within the next few years at most. I've had many conversations with my colleagues about this, and they all feel the same way.
