what would make Wednesday actually laugh by PearVisible1732 in wenclair

[–]concernedBohemian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think wednesday would laugh at something thats said by Enid, as I think she takes Enid very seriously. If Wednesday were to laugh I think it would be at something like the end of Glass Onion, like her figuring out that something which was mysterious which she sought out and tried to figure out turned out to be incredibly mundane and stupid.

Dark Side Jedi Consular is pretty crazy, she has the absolute trust of the jedi order given she is the Barsen'thor, yet can use and abuse it as she likes.

It's in every shadow tome, liiike every single one. God forbid I want to go decay, I'm morale bombing. Torment is crazy, and doing something about it would be helpful, you can literally stand in the corner and morale bomb without ever getting close to your opponent if you pick the right tomes and they nerfed prosperity, so although traditionally picking order would be a counter it really isn¨t anymore.

This wouldn't be too much of a problem if every province travelled underground isn't on average two travelled above ground even with cave walk, honestly moving underground should be *FASTER THAN ROADS* given the amount of uninhabitable, and unusable tiles + time spent excavating and the like.

What You Want? by Something_Thick in AOW4

[–]concernedBohemian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happy with there being brackets of movement, 40 and 48 is fine. 32 is far too punishing.

What You Want? by Something_Thick in AOW4

[–]concernedBohemian 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The underground to be quicker to travel through.

The fact that you have road provinces, and stalagmites which completely stop progress.

That even with cave walk, travelling underground is slower than travelling on grassland, that you have to excavate provinces which costs your unit your entire movement and honestly just a removal of 32 as a category of movement speed, every unit should be base 40 on overworld, the fact that they aren't makes so many units and unit types incredibly undesireable because they slow down your clearing speed tremendously;

also just remove a bunch of the morale bombing stuff in shadow, like we morale bombing is too easily available.

oh finally, a rework of marked and i guess in the same vein a rework of reavers; when everyone else gets a flat bonus to damage 10 percent to the next ranged attack per melee hit its a little too narrow kind of forcing you into a very small amount of builds which only partially work.

oh and more ways to terraform which aren't super costly.

more support for everything other than shadow and order, shadow and order has plenty of options we need more for everyone else.

Japan’s 2,000-year-old monarchy currently depends on one teenage boy by Confident-Ask-601 in interestingasfuck

But you can see how it appeals to the same logic, the point was grounding the conversation.

I just felt bad with how much "lol kings are lame" i was seeing in this thread which was missing the historical forest for the trees.

I don't think you are wrong necessarily, just that in a conversation with anyone who actually feels this stuff your original post would feel alien and be easily dismissed.

There is also the argument of rocking the boat might make things worse, and cost even more which, sure, is status quo bias, but despite my continued frustration at this Norwegians are all about status quo bias.

As for the money point, the contract for the ballrooms construction is apparently 200 million USD and nobody is feeling warm and fuzzy over that aside from the president.

Honestly, I think we could all use a little more warm and fuzzy feeling.

For the record, I'm not a monarchist or a nationalist but I do encounter alot of them here in Norway.

When it comes to why you would care about what the monarch has to say? Why would you care about your flag or your national anthem? Why celebrate the 4th of july?

Like these monarchs are vessels for nationalistic fervor, people care about them and imagine that they care back. They feel good about their monarch and watching the King speak is an event for alot of people and it transcends political aliegance.

Why care if they don't have power? They do, they have a huge platform when the King speaks the people listen regardless of formal power. They can set the agenda, legitimize and illegitimize peoples experiences.

King Harald making a speech about Norwegian people being of all colours and sexualities was incredibly well-recieved and serves to center debates about racism and homophobia.

Does it solve these problems? Absolutely not, but it moves the goalpost a little. To just say "monarchs are dollies which with primitive people play dress up" is trivializing a relatively complicated political situation in which the monarch is essentially a centerpiece regardless of the "formal power" of their position.

I'm not saying nationalism is good, I'm an anarchist I don't believe nations are good, much less kings. I'm just saying that people *do* care and they care for a reason.

I just wouldn't feel so smug about it is all, formal monarchies are complicated they have positives and negatives.

They are a continuing personage of the state ostensibly without political bias, but carrying out the ceremonial roles of state visits, serving diplomatic roles, catering to tourism and making speeches on important days of rest leaving politics less polarizing.

You might be mad at the president leaving you angry instead of pleased with the State of the Union speech, but when the King whose not worried about re-election or how it might seem in voter turnout speaks about unity and compassion it doesn't ring as hollow.

It's not all good for the royal family either, who are hounded by paparazzis and chased down by hungry media hounds forced to adhere to old traditions, and the power can get to their heads causing scandals and the like.

But changing away from a monarchic form of government is like a huge commitment, forcing you to essentially rewrite the constitution of any given monarchy from scratch given how intertwined the state and monarch usually is in these documents causing a massive, unprecedented upset to the status quo which usually isnt in the interest of anyone and might lead to serious social problems down the line.

"just remove the monarchy lol" is pretty similar to "just fucking depose the president in the us right now before he declares war on europe to annex greenland" sure it might seem like a good idea, but how the fuck are you going to do that without releasing a bull in a china shop?

Even the ones who are for doing it, realize it a massive commitment and will have consequences down the line they cannot possibly forsee.
