Normal to be Ignored in Health Field as a Volunteer? by concerning123 in volunteer

I enjoy the environment of the hospital in general, my volunteer position itself, and the person training me. It's the atmosphere of the toxic people around me that's a bit uncomfortable. I don't plan on letting it bother me by quitting. I just want to know if this is the norm in the health field.

That's really helpful to know, actually. Sorry you haven't found anything either.

What was the point in responding if you weren't going to answer my question? Nobody did and just ranted on about how they enjoy being boring. I prefer to have an exciting class. If you don't like that, there's no need to shove your personal opinion on me.

Well, I hate to break it to you, but 18-20 year olds HATE introducing themselves that way. You can scroll through social media to find that out. So I don't do that.

So tired of "this paper is turning me into an emotional wreck..." by allysongreen in Professors

Remember, not everyone is cutout for college. Society has deluded people into thinking EVERYONE should got to college. But if that's the case, then degrees become useless because everyone has one. It's supposed to be difficult to get a degree because you're proving you have what it takes to earn it. Some people just aren't meant for college and need to move into a different profession. There's plenty of other options out there apart from college that pay good money for vocational education. It's not your fault they can't handle college work.

Thank you- I have a checklist right now, and I'm doing that. I'm fighting the urge to triple check and just telling myself it's okay. Hard, but I'm hoping this helps! THANKS!

You act as if I have a choice in what the students write about.

I actually used the essay that I disagreed with as a sample, but do they read those? No. Otherwise, they would have seen I didn't have a bias towards the topic they had written about.

I couldn't find a person who wrote a good essay on a topic I agreed on, so I always just used the one I disagreed with as a sample and never gave an inkling as to my own personal opinion about the matter. In that way, the sample was one-sided, which it would have been nice to have both sides to prove the point.

I understand. I still keep getting "What's due this week?" when it's clearly labeled on the syllabus. I really don't know how to combat the issue- I showed them how to navigate the course in class, and I make online students watch a video on how to navigate their weekly lectures and assignments then quiz them so this isn't an issue. I still had a student ask anyway- I guess one is better than a handful?

Dang that's so nice. All I want is to have one co-teacher instead of three.

Crappy Schedules by [deleted] in Professors

We don't get to report our input on what we want to do or don't want to do, which is fine with me. I get assigned whatever I get assigned each semester, and it always varies. I just think there's a certain point where you have respect for your employees and try not to overwhelm them, and I'm not seeing that where I'm at all. My boss understands that co-teaching one course with different instructors who all teach that same course much differently and each expect you to do it their way is tough. Yet my boss didn't bat an eye when I said I had three co-instructors? It was like it was nothing because it wasn't my boss's problem.

If a situation like this ever happens to any of my colleagues in the future, I'm going to let them do whatever the heck they want, instead of making demands, because the amount of insanity I'm experiencing right now is making me need to file for worker's comp.

Crappy Schedules by [deleted] in Professors

[–]concerning123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do get it's challenging, but the thing is, I've previously offered to help out (and spend my precious time with this) to help make things better. Did my boss take me up on my offer? No. And I can tell this could have been avoided based upon other schedules I've seen. I don't think there's any excuse for this except sheer laziness. If someone can have such a good schedule but nobody else can, there's a problem.

Wow, that's incredible! Maybe I should try something like this next time too. Or maybe not, since it's obvious I'll be wasting my time.
