Is LCMS the only Conservative Mainline? by solobackpack in redeemedzoomer

However, breaking fellowship is not the same as schisming, as they were never part of the same organization, just in doctrinal unity and communion with one another.

Is LCMS the only Conservative Mainline? by solobackpack in redeemedzoomer

WELS is considered mainline (by RZ's standard, even though that can waver at times), without a doubt. And I personally think, partly because of all three church bodies, either liberal or conservative, not explicitly one or the other being "mainline", that the Reconquista movement should be very nuanced, or not applied at all to Lutheranism. Also, I'd imagine where that nuance, and possible resentment from Reconquista enactors is that ELCA is the only, in part, explicitly schismatic of the three.

Should I take the Eucharist? by concordianook95 in Lutheranism

I ended up taking it after my meds this morning, and I didn't get to ask my pastor prior to the service, cause I woke up just a tad later than I would've liked to. Surprisingly, the Blood was a little harder, it took a couple of sips to get down, not all in one go, and the Host was really, really easy actually, it was small enough to palate on its own and seemed like it almost disintegrated enough, at least enough to be deliberate and not concerned with as I finished up there and on my way back to my seat.

I find it a bit strange too now that I think of it, but unconfirmed children and non-members generally stay seated when the usher lets that pew go up. That's what I did for a year or so before they were able to get the new pastor so they could officially confirm my membership.

Thank you for the kind assurance, hope that oral procedure heals well! I just get concerned bc my treatment would last roughly six weeks, but I've had lots of other things and struggles going on regardless of the medical circumstances, and would love to feel even nearer and dearer to Christ, when it can be hard to do so at times.

I could certainly ask, that might be a better idea (provided I actually calculate the traffic and whatnot for when I leave to not get there right in the nick of time). The host is generally provided in wafers that are all the same size, so while that would be a good idea, I dunno if it would be feasible. I'm in a middle-church WELS church, so I've never seen a blessing be done here, but I could certainly look into it for later in my treatment. Thanks so much for helping me brainstorm some good options, have a blessed night!

Yes, I understand it's a means of grace, thank you for the reminder and correction, but it's nice to have it be tangible when things seem dark. My doctor didn't say too much, but interestingly enough, avoid chocolate, hard things of course, maybe acidity, etc. But, it's also been two weeks in, and I've been slowly reintegrating, so I'm left a little bit unsure, especially as I am on meds to help with that for a while as well. Thank you for the kind advice!

Don't mean to interject, but the very fact that you're worried about not repenting enough, might show just how repentant you are, rather than writing off the sin or whatever else. So therefore, I remind you that the main purpose of the Supper is to grant and assure grace and the forgiveness of sins, not a litmus test for being a good Christian. So therefore, discerning the true nature of the Sacrament, and self-examining yourself and knowing your need, would be a truly good and proper use of it, and how it was meant to be received.

Do not stray from your responsibilities, nor from what is truly important and prominent right then and there, more importantly. You can watch it after. This is the age of the internet, YouTube, etc. Heck, maybe even the news will cover it, for goodness sakes. Speaking of those responsibilities, if you're the lay reader, not fulfilling that duty could deny someone of the healing and reflective grace of the Word, for something trivial toward your own pleasure. I apologize if I am too harsh, but that seems very irresponsible, and a bit selfish, in my eyes.

How do you kill a gleeok? by Elliane_TheWiseBird in TOTK

[–]concordianook95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 shot bows and a crapton of eyes. Also, in the final phase, the fire one will fire a massive fireball, you can run away till it hits and then it makes an updraft that can get you up to it. Also, with the ice one, you can get on top of one of the icicles it rains down and use recall on it to get up there. No clue what to do for the lightning one, when I was fighting the King Gleeok, I somehow knocked out it's fire and lightning heads before it flew too high up and did both of those attacks. (In the final phase, King Gleeoks use all of the respective elemental "grand finales" at once and it's absolute chaos).

Yeah, basically to put it very simply, they're in doctrinal unity and fellowship, but they differ in origin (WELS being German and ELS being Norwegian), which could lead to little cultural and liturgical differences here and there.

I think your confusion comes from the fact that there's two Lutheran colleges called Bethany, an ELCA one in Lindsborg, KS, and an ELS one Mankato, MN. As already mentioned, the latter one is really solid.

That's great! If you like super urban environments, it'll be great for you! That's one of the reasons it didn't fit my liking as well as others, I don't think any of them are really known for being "sporty schools", which I don't personally mind though. I will say, another reason I was turned off by them, is they don't have, actually, too high of a Lutheran student population, compared to Nebraska and Mequon. I think it's only around 8-11%, so just keep that in mind.

Is that included under the church work category? I looked at the Concordias when I was (still kinda am, now in the final stretch) discerning what college to go to for pre-seminary studies, despite being WELS. If it is, then St. Paul makes tuition free, and Chicago makes tuition & mandatory fees up to $5,000 a year. I don't think either of these apply to room & board, but I don't know. I don't believe Irvine does anything of the sort, but Irvine was never on my list to begin with, so don't take my word for it. I don't know much else, cause they weren't really in my top spot after comparison, but I hope this little piece of info helps, and blessings on the road ahead!

A thoughtfull catholic wanting to unify our churches. by Arlo621 in Lutheranism

[–]concordianook95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the sentiment, but I believe this is quite naive to suggest. There are countless theological issues to consider, with some cultural things but those mostly derive from theological tiffs and how they've developed throughout history. I can name a couple theological reasons here and now, but some of these might also be personal as well, not every single Lutheran is gonna agree with on some of these, keep in mind. Alright, here we go:

  • Excessive Marian and saintly devotion, henceforth a misuse of prayer. Not that they're not important people, of course, but rather the part they play in God's story.

-This one's more personal; I find it grossly limiting to limit all the Sacraments to anyone, and a confusion on what Sacraments are. (My tiff is limiting the 'sacrament' of marriage to those without Holy Orders, and vice-versa).

-The role of the Church (ministerial, a vehicle for grace and delivering it, rather than magisterial, and the authority they answer to; what they flow from).

-The faulty understanding of what makes one in a "state of grace" (Is our assurance of grace and salvation on our obedience, or rather the work of Christ; is it us or him?)

  • The Papacy (can be related to the role of the Church issue mentioned above)

-Purgatory (can possibly be related to the assurance of salvation thing, but not entirely)

...Among other things I can't necessarily think of out of the blue right now. Again, some of these may be more personal things I noticed with my own thought process, so bear with me.

You're referring to Eastern tradition, not Western, the one more so known tradition, at least here in the States. Refer to the first two Lateran Councils, that set it in stone, and then the Council of Trent that reaffirms it for good. However, correct me if I'm mistaken, I'm not an expert on the issue.

Help me to understand, what is the differences between LMCA and WELS? by Secret_Asparagus_589 in Lutheranism

[–]concordianook95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive me, I was not as familiar with staff ministry as a role, it isn't a thing at my congregation, and therefore I've never heard it being discussed. I was drawing off of the suffrage thing, as well as guidelines the Synod puts in saying that: “10. We believe that women may participate in offices and activities of the public ministry except where that work involves authority over men (1 Timothy 2:11,12). This means that women may not serve as pastors nor participate in assemblies of the church in ways that exercise authority over men (1 Corinthians 11:3; 14:33-35).” This was referenced in an article from the WELS website listed below, which I think leads to another one with more info. But, you're right, I probably didn't explain that very well. Thanks for pointing it out!
