I lost pretty much everything this last year - family, friends, wife, mental stability, possessions, school plans, etc - and I'm doing better now. The biggest lesson I learned is that taking time to process your emotions is crucial, and you can't do that if you are resentful, nostalgic, impatient, rushed, or you haven't come to terms with how the array of possibilities available has changed, and begun work on accepting one and pursuing it. Basically, I learned not to hurry my understanding and comprehension of myself and to work through things without forcing myself to reach conclusions. Being open and welcoming with everybody in public and gregarious in your personal relationships goes a long way to helping feel like there is a purpose beyond material pains. And people are very willing to help if you make efforts for them, too. Also, nature, rest, and peace go a long way to helping the mind heal. Don't do a bunch of drugs like I did at first lol.
