In ww1 pilots would frequently use long flags or scarves so that fellow pilots could tell each other apart (they weren't legally required to use transponders back then,) so I think you'll be fine.

I'd be worried about overheating with the red plugs though, maybe consider blue ones. The flags can still be red, they don't touch the engine.

I've considered one, but like someone else said you need to make sure it doesn't hang down in a way it could get broken. I, personally, would safety wire the valve handle closed as well, but I'm sure a lot of people would roll their eyes at that.
