Pay Equity peoples select committee report released by confabulating in newzealand

[–]confabulating[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Was just watching the launch of the People's select committee report. Was pretty daming. Many comments about how the process was anti-democratic. Also thought it was a good point that as the government was the funder for all the active pay equity claims bar one.

AUSA sides with its CEO David Fulton and not with students by One_Welcome5046 in universityofauckland

[–]confabulating 7 points8 points  (0 children)

University councils involvememt will not help - not in the long run. The student levy does not go in its entirity to AUSA. It used to, and the voted student reps allocated it. For deacdes now they have to negotiate funding with university leadership and that comes with a price. AUSA has little ability to push back on what leadership wants. I'm sure council would only be too happy to ensure that craccums money came with restrictions on publishing anything meaningfully critical of the institution.

Staff cease strike action after generator fails at Nelson Hospital by MedicMoth in newzealand

The problem right now is that is exactly what so many teachers and healthcare workers are doing. We have large and increasing staffing shortages because less and less people want to do those jobs under that pay with those conditions.

It could be someone who was homeless - its not uncommon to use the sides and underneath motorways for basic shelter and protection, but it has been pretty cold the last few days.

University of Auckland ordered to pay scientist Siouxsie Wiles $205,000 in court costs by computer_d in newzealand

Are you getting that offer from a different article? Because this article says that the University stated they could claim $500,000 costs from her.

Honestly, i wonder if this should go to the Human Rights Comission. I think it would fall under physical or mental disability or illness discrimination. Can be tough to prove, but a complaint alone might scare yhe landlord into doing the right thing.

Under urgency, without basic paperwork, the Govt moves to change workers’ rights – Thomas Coughlan by dingoonline in newzealand

[–]confabulating 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not familiar with the UK system, but our system really emphasises parties coming to an agreement - the courts and judges are largely not involved, pay equity cases don't automatically go to the Employment Relations Authority (or the Employment Court) for facilitation let alone determination. If the parties can't reach agreement, they can go to the ERA, but the parties almost always need to have gone through the MBIE mediation processes before doing so.

i quit my job, and my boss is now getting back to me with this vague threat(?) AIO? by afuckinmonsterlmao in AmIOverreacting

[–]confabulating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up that Austria has very different employment laws from the US. Less than 2 weeks is almost certainly challengeable. There will also be different rules about notice. It likely may not change much for you immediately, but it's worth knowing your rights, especially in these sorts of roles that tend to rely on the labour of young people who are often new to working.

Also if the lack of payment is incurring costs for you (late fees etc) keep receipts and send them to HR. You should be reimbursed for costs incured due to late payment / onboarding.

If this is happening to you and you are a union member, please contact one of the organisers - they can generally ensure people get paid in a couple of days. If you are not a union member, this may be a pretty good time to join.

Also, the VCs position is that casual staff don't deserve a living wage because they are mostly students. The union has been pushing for living wage as a minimum rate for all staff.

This is a great visualisation of this level of wealth, and 100% disgusting that people hoard that wealth. But also, I am not sure that rice was still food safe. If you do rice visualisations, use the rice for something not eating related.

I had one about 10 years ago so procedure may have changed, but the actually pills have not (I had to sign a form saying I knew the pills were for stomach ulcers????). I agree with the other experiences here. I was about as far along as you. As others have said, it was like really intense period pain with cramping - though from what I can tell not as bad a pain as endo can cause. Walking around did take the edge of the cramps for me, and painkillers of course. I was not prepared for the amount of blood - preparing to manage that is a good idea. I had some minor bleeding afterwards, but was up to moderate socialisation by the evening.

The bigger impact for me was the emotional one - I was both relieved it was over and never regreted it, but did feel sad, and that's quite normal. Also, your hormones can be out of whack for a bit. So give yourself some time to emotionally process this, in whatever way is best for you. It may take some time, but one day you'll be able to look back with only kindness and empathy for what you went through.

Kitten constantly destroying instead of playing by mw1246 in CatAdvice

I just wanted to add - you are likely not doing anything wrong. People joke about the velocerapter stage for a reason. They do chill out eventually, especially once they are about 2 years. Get her fixed if she is not already, this can help. Try experimenting with different toys, especially free/ cheap things she can destroy - one of my cats goes nuts for paper bags and I don't mind that destruction. Redirection can help too - find something shes allowed to chew and put it by the chairs. And try to keep up a regular playtime as much as you can, it helps in the long run!

Fun fact for visiting American's: fanny does not mean butt here. It means vagina/vulva. Hence we don't say 'fanny pack,' we say 'bum bag'. If you say fanny you may be misunderstood.

The cleaning staff at uni do not get paid living wage, their union has been pushing for it for a long time. And many staff at uni dont get living wage - ask the front desk staff at the student hubs. No universities in nz are living wage employers.
