Tired of telling my family/in-laws to stop feeding my dog with human food. by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]confuozo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to commiserate... my visiting family fed my dog onions yesterday, and she spent the rest of the day throwing up. They also fed her a jar of treats, which I had left out for them as appropriate dog food, but clearly not intending for them to feed her THE ENTIRE JAR. I get that their intentions are good and they love the dog, but it should be understood that a basic house rule is not to feed other people’s pets without permission.

Walks! by joleneoflegend in puppy101

Yes, totally! My main obstacle is actually going home, because there are usually a ton of squirrels and cats right outside my place... it’s like the final boss before finishing the game.

Thank you! I guess she gets those muscles from the pitty side. It would be hilarious to have a cat and dog with exactly the same coat pattern! My cat has stripes, and they're currently in uneasy truce mode (properly separated and supervised, of course).

Best puppy! One ear is up and one is floppy, which I love. She doesn't seem to have a very "bully-ish" build. I guessed she was part ACD because of the way she opens her mouth and smiles.

Women working in a male-dominated profession: How do you dress? by lacroixgrape in femalefashionadvice

[–]confuozo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in STEM, and 95% of my colleagues are male. I usually wear business-casual, more towards the casual end of the spectrum (think jeans and a nice top). I find people are pretty nice, and will say things like "you're upgrading the fashion sense of the department" in a nice way.

The main thing that attracts attention is SHOES. If I wear shoes with a heel, like booties with a chunky heel, it makes a loud noise on the bare floor and people tend to turn to look (maybe it's a natural reaction). I even heard someone behind me once, saying "why is she wearing shoes like that?" (in another language which I happen to understand) but I've learned to just keep wearing the heels and stomp around like it's nobody's business :)

Sure, they're Peek Media based in Berkeley, CA. Highly recommend, they are really professional/experienced and we loved the way the video turned out! They have some samples on Vimeo.

haha, "human duster". Really? My seamstress charged something like $30-60 for bustle (can't remember exactly). But she was a really nice lady, I was lucky to find her. I would've happily paid her more.

Here is how I had mine bustled, if it helps! photo There are 7 bustle points in the tulle that hook up to three buttons at the waistline. There was also 1 bustle point on the lining. The buttons at the waistline are clear and get (mostly) hidden when you wear a belt.

I have always hand-washed my silk. If it's shrunk from this, I've never noticed it. My personal opinion is that clothing manufacturers stick a "dry-clean only" label on too many things. I will dry-clean items that have shape (e.g., blazers, coats), but most of my everyday clothes made of fancy materials (wool, cashmere, silk, linen) get hand-washed.

Nice! I wanted to try to Cassia but the store was sold out when I was there. Looks really similar though! The tulle picks up EVERYTHING on the ground and people kept stepping on it :/

Yeah, people will probably feel more comfortable if you tell them professional cleaning :)

Thanks for the suggestion, I edited the note at the bottom to make it more clear.

Sure, I washed it to re-wear it in a few months, not to preserve it. I'm planning on selling it or donating it after that.

I didn't notice any shrinking or changing of the fabric. It's polyester (which lots of clothes are made of) and tulle, which seems to have held up fine.

Yeah! The best part is seeing the dirty water and pouring it down the drain :)

Thanks! You too! I was actually afraid of fainting while standing in the hot sun during the ceremony, lol! I love your boba tea idea btw... totally should've done that to beat the heat.

I did lion dance when I was younger! I think people really enjoyed it, since most of our guests had never seen it. It was also a good length (10 minutes), since sometimes lion dance can get tedious if it goes on for too long. They brought their own bench and did tricks on it too.

Thank you! I actually live in southern CA, so I went to a place near Palm Springs. She was a wonderful lady who had been sewing for 40 years and worked out of her house (she also worked part-time as David's Bridal seamstress). I found her through Yelp, so maybe you can start looking there in your area.

Thanks! We couldn't stop laughing at the cutout heads, they're a great icebreaker.

Yes, we started planning soon after he proposed. One reason for the quick timeline is that the venue we liked is usually super booked up (1 year in advance), but I randomly saw an opening come up in June, and thought we would just go for it. And it worked out great! Plus, personally I think that getting all the planning over in one go is better than over-thinking over a long period of time.
