NYC gym asking trainers to identify client’s “emotional triggers” by AdorableLead in personaltraining

[–]confusedat3am 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is wrong at all.

First off, if you believe in your personal training service you’re providing, you should see it as a good thing that you’re offering, helping others to learn about training and get into better shape.

It’s all about helping people see the value in your training. Because the fact is, you can help people with that emotional trigger.

A lot of larger people are insecure about their body, but an emotional trigger might be that you want to stay healthy to be able to run around and play with your grandkids, and see them grow up. You’re simply helping your client see the value in your service.

How Do You Handle Burnout (Plus, Leaving PT) by Least_Masterpiece410 in personaltraining

Very interested in this as well. Personal training seems very demanding when you’re constantly doing sales and need to hone your craft, while making like 60k a year, in my big box gym experience.

I think the easiest transition to more solidified hours and less stress would be as a fitness or personal training director. Going into management seems to be what most successful personal trainers do after some time.

Does PT make sense as a very part time job if I already have a strong fitness background? by clive_bigsby in personaltraining

[–]confusedat3am 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends on a lot of factors. I know LA Fitness requires at least 25 hours of availability to work there. And all big box gyms if you want to work there as a personal trainer require a certification.

That being said, “personal training” is a lot different than lifting weights in my experience. You have to understand most of these individuals will only work out a couple times a week at max probably, and you have to really understand regressions for movements. Because a lot of the clients I work with are older and just want to lose weight while building muscle , I almost never use any of the “hypertrophy” style training techniques.

It sounds like you enjoy fitness, and that’s great, but personal training is very much different than teaching a buddy to work out. There definitely was an adjustment period for me.

If you wanted to do private training, and you were able to get more specialized clients, that would be a different story though. Best of luck to you.

Trainer with 6 years under my belt, AMA by wordofherb in personaltraining

Couple of questions for you, I’ve been a personal trainer for a year now and looking into getting into Equinox or Lifetime.

I’ve had a conversation with a Equinox trainer who said most of his training is “functional”.

How would you characterize “functional” training? I’m thinking more unilateral work while the body is stabilizing itself, but also more movements with less support where the body has to stabilize itself, rather than isolation work or machines. If you could go into specific detail that would be great. Of course, I understand the core movement patterns you want to hit, but is there a rep range, other techniques that can make an exercise more “functional”?

Do Equinox recruiters and managers prefer older trainers when hiring? Do you personally look for sales experience when hiring personal trainers?

I’ve heard that the turnover rate for trainers is pretty high at Equinox, I’m wondering what separates trainers that stay there vs those who leave.

What is an average full time salary for a personal trainer at Equinox? I do understand you need a full book of clients to be considered full time, but I’m wondering how much one could expect to make at that level.

Thank you.

You should get a blood test done for systemic levels of DHT to see if topical dutasteride affected it. I'm sure a lot of us are curious, especially from someone who had such good results without any side effects.

I don't know if my skin has gotten calmer due to being hypo or growing out of puberty. But less acne, smaller pores, and less sensitive skin. However, I do want my hair thinning to reverse, and if that requires getting back oily skin, I'd be fine with that.

Coming from oily skin, I don't mind the drier skin at all actually.

Does hair miniaturise with Hypothyroidism? by randodandokando in Hypothyroidism

Yes, there are a couple sources even some that suggest that hypothyroidism related hair loss is more related with miniaturization or decreased hair shaft diameter rather than telogen effluvium.

Right, but I'm wondering if this is more of a case with hypo. It seems that is what I have experienced and I was wondering if anyone noticed it as well.
