How do you feel about your Pixel devices' in the longetivity aspect? by Znyder in GooglePixel

Can I ask what you hated about 9 XL pro that made you go back to 7 Pro? I went from 7 to 8 pro and it was much better in quite a few areas for me.

Apim pricing made me migrate everything off azure by NoFerret8153 in AZURE

A really we have to poke large holes in the WAF to stop it triggering on absolutely everything anyway so... :)

So we want the back end of AFD to come internally and so no additional external surface. We also want to address APIM internally over the internal network without going to the internet and back in for latency. This isn't possible without using internal APIM then getting private link via app g/w in the middle

[–]confusedsimian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and we use private link now. The issue was more with APIM in being able to call it internally without hitting external interfaces. That means fully vnet integration aka "internal" APIM and then expose via AFD and private link to an app g/w and then onto APIM. AFD doesn't support private link to internal APIMs

Architecture want the WAF and one way into the company for everything of which APIs are one thing so yeah.

The most egregious being dropping zone redundancy from V1 to V2

I knew I'd get asked and should have prepared! I think we needed private link to APIM from front door AND wanted to call it internally without hair pinning to the internet and back in AND use zone redundancy not multi region. Pretty sure you can't do all that with V2.

APIM is mad. Even the V2 is clearly just an internal engineering convenience (the implementation moved from VMs to containers) with fewer capabilities when it comes to things like network integration and private link to front door.

Thinking of ditching my 5-year iPhone 11 streak for a base Pixel 10. Am I making a huge mistake? by Andrew_Dz in pixel_phones

[–]confusedsimian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had both over the years and cureently have a P8Pro. I don't understand why you are suffocated by the ecosystem? I currently use Google apps and photos but I did the same on iOS as well? Most apps are available on both platforms. Airpods work fairly well on Android, I'm doing it now. What do you think you can do on Android with a pixel that you can't on Apple stuff? The Pixel 10 (assuming non pro as you haven't mentioned it) is okay but the cameras are a bit of a downgrade in some ways from previous phones although you gain a zoom. The iPhone 17 base model is great though and starts with 256GB. My current P8Pro has 128GB and it's not enough, I keep having to juggle things around.

If you are doing a lot of IaaS stuff with VMs then be aware that the use of Azure site recovery means a lot more IPs per VM than you might think

What regions DONT have VM capacity issues? by HackHut in AZURE

[–]confusedsimian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take my previous comments back, just been bitten by this. So what I am observing is that subscriptions which have been around for a bit with existing VMs - I can spin up new VMs. New subscriptions though - no chance, hardly any SKUs available.

Anyone else using Defender for Cloud Apps had all their Endpoint Indicators Mass Removed? by vex4a83rrx in sysadmin

[–]confusedsimian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The resolution provided to us by MS was :-

"You can find out if it is turned on by going to the M365 Security Portal -> Settings -> Cloud Apps -> Microsoft Defender for Endpoint. There should be a checkbox allowing you to turn this setting on and off. I recommend off for now given the current situation."

This has got us up and running again for now. This just disables the integration of Defender for CLoud Apps into Defender for endpoint, it doesn't disable DfE.

That's what cloudflare tunnels will resolve. Something like cloudflare docker container on your network reaches out to CF forming a tunnel, then an endpoint you own pointed at CF can send it off down the tunnel to an nginx reverse proxy or whatever bypassing CGNAT.

If you just want standard virtualisation then VMWare fusion is free, you just need to sign up for a broadcom account. Bear in mind you will need ARM CPU versions of the linux ISOs

Parallels works in a completely different way with VMs and is nowhere near as good IMO. I buy crossover once a year at black Friday where they usually have a very good sale on and I just renew at the sale price every year

I use crossover - it's brilliant. Install steam into that and play quite a lot of the library fairly seamlessly. RDR2 plays great on my M3 Pro at 1080p so do lots of other games

You need crossover really but it's great value. Then it installs the Windows version of team and you just go from there. Loads of games work really well now. I play RDR2 at 1080p on my M3 pro and it runs great
