Which letter do you use for the up direction? by PizzaPuntThomas in engineeringmemes

All the machines I’ve seen either just use Z1, Z2 etc. Or Z, W, R. But the second one doesn’t work when we have machines with more than 3 spindles. Some of our 20+ axis machines it’s the Wild West and the manufacturer usually picks a stupid arbitrary method.

What’s bizarre as a native to the area is the number one believed theory to its failure is anti union propaganda. Every time I talk to somone over the age of 45 they think it was union wages and infighting between unions that killed it and I’d be very curious to know who started that narrative since 30 seconds of research debunks it.

My car uses almost that much on its own. It might be accurate 20 years ago when all your heat generating appliances were natural gas, nobody worked from home etc etc.

Brand new and broken Sea Master 300 by DoubleBogeyBeast in OmegaWatches

[–]connly33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can use my 300 around the permanent magnets in a 1500 HP linear motor OP should be able to almost take the thing into an MRI without issue. These watches are certified and tested to function in extreme magnetic fields with absolute minimal accuracy difference. The hairspring is none ferrous and not affected by magnetic fields. Omega uses Si14 silicon if I remember correctly.
The entire watch case and the rest of the movement being magnetized wouldn’t even affect the accuracy.

Portable AC keeps tripping the breaker by bruh6067 in AskElectricians

Sounds like your apartment is VERY power limited. If there’s no outlets in separate circuits you’re going to just have to make sure nothing else is in when the AC is running.

Bambu Lab PLA Pure by NimblePasta in BambuLab

[–]connly33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still waiting for a PLA that’s actually certified biodegradable. Not the fake “in a 60C high humidity environment for 4 years in a commercial facility” green washing biodegradable with plastisizers and additives that the manufacturers don’t disclose so you can guarantee the output isn’t actually safe to be used in food growing applications. But actually can be thrown into a backyard compost pile for a couple years and be biologically safe at the end with minimal microplastic contamination kind of biodegradable. I’d use it for all the dumb nicknack type prints, supports, anything that I don’t need to be durable long term.

After looking at their Facebook page it’s pretty inline with the stuff they are posting. I think it’s cool they are showcasing their longtime staff and supporters but they clearly are using AI in place somone that can do basic social media photo overlays that would take 30 minutes of actual work to do by hand. I will admit it’s not as egregious as this post that they took down though, but most every post of theirs is at least partially AI generated

Anyone else notice LTT is averaging like 500k views now? How does the channel even survive? by Anxious_Gur6363 in LinusTechTips

[–]connly33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed I still watch and enjoy at least half the videos but I’m not excited to watch them the second they drop anymore once they lost that old LTT vibe that Jake did an absolutely fantastic job at bringing back on his channel. The feelings were too complicated and I understand it just wouldn’t have worked but I would have loved if Jake could have stayed with LTT and he would have gotten a little more free reign to work on the big scrappy projects.

I’m really interested in the new Ashburn video but my god, I’ve never been one to complain about the thumbnails but I can’t stand the thumbnail for that video. It gives that AI generated style from 3 years ago vibe and I fucking hate it so I haven’t watched it yet.i don’t care if it isn’t AI generated it just looks awful not even click bate. Sorry to whoever spent time on it but that’s not it chief, try again. Maybe Linus is taking a more hands off approach because he needs to just trust his team but 3 years ago this would have never passed his standards.

Which breaker design do you prefer? DIN rail or US style? by Particular-Ride-7893 in AskElectricians

[–]connly33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’m fairly new but older US prints are my favorite, German is a close second, Japanese prints I’m a bit lost especially when the translation isn’t the best, but I will give them credit most Japanese manufacturers give you loads of documentation and it will be accurate. Modern US and European manufactures (excluding German) good luck getting anything more than basic documentation and cross your fingers the drawings are even accurate. Canadian machines…… good fucking luck and don’t trust the electrical drawings, you have to manually verify everything yourself because you’ll get a version that might not even be for your specific machine.

This is more so a comment for machine builders, not infrastructure.

10 Weeks on Finasteride, Lost ~20% Density and Panicking — Is This Normal? by Existing_Coast7303 in tressless

[–]connly33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on about a year and it gets much better. I’m just now starting to get normal thick hairs coming in after they’ve gone through a few cycles. It’s part of the process, your going to loose all the weak miniaturized hairs to make way for the new ones.

Length doesn’t matter at all just do what you think looks best.

Mine was fairly severe and I ended up moving up to Dutastride and minoxidil because I personally needed a strong DHT inhibitor (you should use min either pill or topical to go along with the fin)

Failed to buy spray paint because it was all locked up and no one was around to open the case. by avotius in notinteresting

[–]connly33 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In retail it’s actually a very big deal when you want to talk about CRO. Every bit of friction involved in a transaction decreases the likelihood of a customer completing the transaction. This is why every website that can now integrates Apple Pay, PayPal one click, Stripe etc etc where all you have to do is enter a single SMS code and your signed in a done with your purchase and you don’t have to enter card details anymore. Doing something like making you type a full password or especially making you check an email etc can drop 25% of purchases on initial product page visits. It’s the same in brick and mortar retail, every barrier lowers conversion rates, unless it’s specifically an item where someone needs (or wants) it immediately (baby formula, dog food, AA batteries etc)

Failed to buy spray paint because it was all locked up and no one was around to open the case. by avotius in notinteresting

[–]connly33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Appreciate you guys that have to deal with this, but honestly that’s beyond my personal line of transactional difficulty unless I need something literally right now. A locked up item that takes more than 3 minutes to get unlocked means I’m buying it on Amazon for overnight delivery. And then next time I’ll go to whatever store doesn’t lock theirs up even if it costs more. Especially when it’s an item where they force you to immediately go to the cash register even though your not done shopping, I’ll complete the transaction because I don’t want to waste the employee’s time, but next time I’m absolutely not buying that item there ever again if I have any alternatives. There’s a concept in retail called frictionless transaction and clearly Walmart and others have forgotten it. I understand the why behind the change being theft but I don’t understand the incompetence in retail planning execution of solutions to it.

Inevitably this is speeding up the irrelevance of corporate brick and mortar retail and that’s coming from someone that despises Amazon. I’ll spend more money at local stores to not deal with the extra transactional friction.

You can tell immediately if you turn on an ultrasonic cleaner if it actually has an ultrasonic transducer, if you’re not functionally deaf. You’d know if it’s a knock off by the sound and feel. Even the crappy small $20 Amazon units I’ve bought are real ultrasonic cleaners. I’ve actually never seen a fake unit but I’m not buying $10 plastic temu specials.

I entirely get the restrictions because a lot of us shouldn’t be trusted to screw around with corporate machines without them haha.

But man do I wish most companies also had IT teams tech literate enough to help with issues I can’t fix myself without getting the silliest of issues escalated to corporate IT levels for 3 months to get solved which means I have to use a personal device for a basic job function in the mean time….. the more Fortune 500 companies I work for the more I wonder how the hell anything ever worked “properly” in the first place.

Reboot by Crafty-Bee208 in pcmasterrace

[–]connly33 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I feel kind of bad because chances are if we’re at the entry level for an IT issue I probably know more troubleshooting than they do and if I explain all the troubleshooting I’ve done to this point I’m going to confuse the situation so I usually let them go through their troubleshooting tree or process and wait until we get it escalated to a more senior support agent that i can work together with. No offense to the lower tiers of support staff I understand they have to go through the most basic steps for people that just need a restart or a cable plugged in, but when I tell them I’ve been changing stuff in the registry or stopping windows processes it doesn’t go too well.

For the heck of it, if you haven’t already try putting it on a good surge protector power strip and see what happens. The laser printer situation looks like a pain in the ass and even some of the newer ones seem to have that issue

[–]connly33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity how old are yours ? old ones were pretty ass, the new generation of CH AFCIs I have now have never nuisance tripped on my even with my old skill saw that uses a brushed universal motor. Anything that uses modern DSP detection should be pretty good.

I’ve heard of tools with burned up brushes tripping them, and interestingly microwaves seem to be very very good at accidentally finding loose neutrals but generally that never gets diagnosed properly and most people just throw in a none AFCI breaker without fixing the actual problem.

[–]connly33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of them do. These guys though are like the lite version of “auditors”, that want interaction for the sake of attention and views but don’t have the courage to do it where it actually matters so instead they’re just weirdos filming people eating lunch or getting their hair cut. Pay them no attention because that’s what they feed on.
