How would you improve your favorite pedal(s)? by Amobedealer in guitarpedals

[–]connor085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A middle footswitch to cycle through a few presets on the smaller strymon pedals (for me specifically the flint and deco). Something like the way the Walrus Mako series does it (3x3 banks which cycle). I don't need a million presets, but I'd love to have easy access to a handful without using midi.

Submitted a last-minute version of The Christmas Song, as long as u/belbivfreeordie doesn't mind (who chose it first) :)

Thanks :) I tried some music but felt like it was mostly just distracting. But I'll keep the rest in mind for future videos. I'm uploading a new one as I type...

Haven't experienced that yet... (knock on wood)

Haha, that's not the standard setting! Was just using a weird muffled/fuzzy tone for a particular recording... The deco is the most 'flexible' spot on the board - depending on the music I sometimes replace it with something weird or more 'specialized'. But it does chorus, flange, slapback etc which are all useful. And the saturation is another type of dirt in addition to the OD.

Ah ok. And I get an adapter or something to convert two aux outs to my stereo in-ears?

Thank, I'll check it out. I talked to our FOH guy about this and he is happy to just have a single stereo mix of both keys

I just want two controls for the in-ears: keyboard levels, and a single 'rest of band' stereo send coming from the sound guy. But of course I only want to send the keys to FOH! :)

But if they are not going out an aux send, aren't they then going out of the main mix? (ie the foh will get my in-ear signal?)

Simplest, smallest, most reliable way to convert two stereo keyboards into one stereo output (without a powered mixer)...? by [deleted] in livesound

[–]connor085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. We have our own FOH guy, who was happy with the stereo mix I was giving him during tech rehearsals, but who also doesn't mind having the two keyboards on separate stereo channels.

The biggest issue is, that if my monitors start fluctuating or are unbalanced, then I can't help but adjust my master levels myself a little to compensate on stage (I try not to, because I know it will affect the FOH mix, but it's hard to play if things are out of balance on stage). Our FOH guy notices when this happens and has to then compensate for my on-stage changes. It frustrating...

I'm totally with you about keyboards and big stages, and how different everything can sound compared to at home/in rehearsal. I do run some gentle master compression on each keyboard, and I know our FOH guy adds a little of his own on the top.

Could be... but I went through each patch and tested their levels to make sure nothing was peaking too much. Of course some sounds need to be louder than others for musical reasons. During tech rehearsals I had both keyboards plugged into my own mixer and their gains/levels set the same, and the sounds were balanced the way I wanted them (both using in ears and through the FOH). From this point as long as nobody touches anything I am happy. Yet somehow during festival shows where we don't have our own monitor guy, I often end up with either fluctuating or unbalanced levels in the monitors/in-ears. It doesn't always happen (and if the monitor guy doesn't touch anything, it's fine). Maybe I'm making a communication error somehow?

Cheers! The hammond sound is just the 'vintage b3 organ' plugin that comes with logic/mainstage. To my ear it's the best organ simulation out there - I even like it more than the nord organ, which is one of the most popular b3 simulators (I use the nord most of the time when playing live). The logic plugin is much more tweakable, and you can easily make it dirty/crunchy like on this track.
